Need Healing Thoughts!

Sorry, IBD stands for inflammatory bowel disease. There is another, similar condition called irritable bowel syndrome but it is usually not as serious.

See, when I mentioned that to the vet he said they were the same thing I was under the impression that they were different.

The kitties are home and I am experimenting on Zeddie's food seeing as she grows pickier by the day. She ate some Stella and Chewy's freeze dried raw....and then when I offered it to her again she snubbed it. She has been picking at various canned food, but she quickly gets bored and snubs it

They're really not - IBS does not cause inflammation, so does not get treated with anti-inflammatories (steroids). I am not a GI specialist (by any means!!) but I knew someone who had Crohn's disease (IBD) and she actually had to have a colostomy because they could not control the disease with medical therapy.

I have to wonder if Zeddie is turning up her nose at food because it hurts her to eat... if you have it, try (human) baby food chicken or turkey (make sure there are no additives) cut with water - if she won't eat it you can syringe it in. Also, I would give her only bottled water for now.

I offered her baby chicken food when she was healthy (trying to get Thor to eat it) but she wouldn't have any of it. She is getting fridge filtered water (which is what I drink too)

I will get some fresh baby food though and try syringing it. She is still eating enough to make me a little less worried...especially if I sprinkle kitty crack on it

Hmmmm now I'm wondering if they are misdiagnosing her...

No doubt one of the reasons why they want to do a biopsy... personally I would rather trial a week of steroids and see if it helps, then put them through surgery for a biopsy, but I completely understand why vets and pet owners want proof positive before committing a cat to (sometimes a lifetime of) taking steroids.

LOL, I do too sometimes - and honestly, if the vet confuses the two then we certainly can't be faulted for doing the same at times as well!!

Zeddie is continuing to improve, she most definitely will not be going back to the vet today. She is keeping herself hydrated and eating pretty well...it seems freeze dried raw is the winner at the moment. I have her in quarantine, which she is pretty upset about, but I am able to monitor her better. As for the diarrhea...I think she is starting to have better control. She should be fine until our vet appointment on Friday *knock on wood*
