I always leave out dry food. Even when they are adults. I can hear them munching in the dead of night. If the cat is active, then it is healthy.

Hi Nitro

Do you leave the kibble out at all times or do you put it down for 30 mintues and then take it away?
Closer to the latter. He is fed in a bathroom because I have two scavenging Bengals that would get sick stomachs if they had access to his food. But if he ever wants another munch, he'll let me know and I'll let him back into the bathroom.

Patience and time will be the answer. They can and will take their time accepting any petting or attention from the new home. She has been taken away from everything she has ever known. Guess who she blames for this? LOL Just remember the breeder will know more about her than anyone. Make sure if you are feeding her chicken, turkey, etc. ...and she is not eating her commercial cat food..you need to start thinking about supplements. You certainly do not want to have problems due to an improper diet. I am hoping she settles in quickly and accept you as her new human parents;>)

Hi Shelby

I purchased wildtrax, Would that be sufficient? I gave her fancy feast last night and she licked the plate, I am going to try mixing the fancy feast with nature variety for now and see how it goes and try raw diet this weekend and see if she goes for it.

Layla is slowly coming around and has been sleeping on the bed and lets us pet her here and there but still runs from us when we walk by. She has started to really get interested in whats behind the master bedroom doors today and I am wondering if it's time to introduce her to the middle floor? We are planning to keep her in the bedroom for a few more weeks. She seems really bored today and doesn't want to play at all, walks back and forth from master bath to master bed then sitting room. Has your kittens sneeze alot when they first wake up? I am noticing she is sneezing quite a bit followed by head shakes and scratching her ears.

Sorry I can't remember your situation off the top of my head, but if you have other cats in the household and she is sneezing, I would definitely keep her quarantined until she is checked out by a vet. Most feline upper respiratory infections are easily transmitted to other cats. If there are no other felines in the home I would still have her checked by a vet (when you are able to get to that point of handling and crating her) but would be less concerned about allowing her out into other parts of the house for brief periods of time. Just remember, the more space she has, the more hiding places she can find to avoid you.

Hi Patti

We dont have any other pets and her sneezing has gotten better... its possible its due to dust since she runs around even though we dust and vacumme constantly. She has found her favorite spot for sleeping which is in the shoe closet in the master bedroom and we finaly moved her bed in there that she was not using and now she is sleeping through out the entire day and plays all night. Last night I was able to pick her up and give her a kiss without too much resistance and I do have to say I am amazed by her leaping abilities. She leaped from the couch in the sitting on to the bed (good 8 feet away) just to wake up my better half Lisa :) I am going to keep her in the bedroom for the month of December until she is more comfortable with us. We are thinking of getting a bengal now to give her companionship but the decision is still pending. Patti, what are your toughts on scruffing? I scruffed her last night a few times which it calmed her down and allowed me to hold her and pet her and she sat next to me afterwards. I dont want to over due it but it seems to be a good technique to make her feel comfortable around us.

I think scruffing can be very helpful in many situations. Very rarely it can backfire making a cat more aggressive, but for most it is a trigger of how mom used to carry them so it can actually calm a cat down. I'm glad it is working for you.
