Amanda, I have been curios about Cappy and Lucky. As I am familiar with our breeder's kittens, how are the little devils? Pictures? Sounds like they own the roost.
They do indeed run our house now! I've attached a couple more recent pictures. They are getting big so quickly -- I haven't been able to weigh them, but I'm guessing they're 10 pounds each at exactly five months. They will both be big, big boys. I'm hoping they'll be just as beautiful as yours, Rascaldad.
Sam, 20 seconds of petting is a huge win with a skittish kitty (we can only do this with Cappy when he's sleepy, being fed, or post-food coma), and you'll see more and more progress. It's hard to be patient, but it's only been a week. And it's amazing what a little turkey can accomplish! You could look into adopting another pet, but keep in mind Layla would end up bonding really strongly to that animal almost right away. I got two at one time -- in some ways, I'm so glad I did. They have A LOT of energy, and they're obviously good buddies. That being said, it took Cappy longer to warm up to us as he's so tightly bonded to Lucky. The first month or so, my husband repeatedly said, "They're your cats. They don't want anything to do with me." The truth was, I spent a lot more time with them -- I fed them, cleaned their boxes, spent at least an hour before work with them, then spent a lot of time on the floor with them at night. Once my husband followed suit, things just started clicking. The first time Cappy sat next to him and put his head on my husband's leg, I thought we were both going to tear up from happiness. Now, two months later, both cats interact with us all the time. Also, check out the topic on this form called "Socializing F2s." It's full of my frustrations from those first few weeks, and all the great advice I received.
