Amanda, I have been curios about Cappy and Lucky. As I am familiar with our breeder's kittens, how are the little devils? Pictures? Sounds like they own the roost.

They do indeed run our house now! I've attached a couple more recent pictures. They are getting big so quickly -- I haven't been able to weigh them, but I'm guessing they're 10 pounds each at exactly five months. They will both be big, big boys. I'm hoping they'll be just as beautiful as yours, Rascaldad.

Sam, 20 seconds of petting is a huge win with a skittish kitty (we can only do this with Cappy when he's sleepy, being fed, or post-food coma), and you'll see more and more progress. It's hard to be patient, but it's only been a week. And it's amazing what a little turkey can accomplish! You could look into adopting another pet, but keep in mind Layla would end up bonding really strongly to that animal almost right away. I got two at one time -- in some ways, I'm so glad I did. They have A LOT of energy, and they're obviously good buddies. That being said, it took Cappy longer to warm up to us as he's so tightly bonded to Lucky. The first month or so, my husband repeatedly said, "They're your cats. They don't want anything to do with me." The truth was, I spent a lot more time with them -- I fed them, cleaned their boxes, spent at least an hour before work with them, then spent a lot of time on the floor with them at night. Once my husband followed suit, things just started clicking. The first time Cappy sat next to him and put his head on my husband's leg, I thought we were both going to tear up from happiness. Now, two months later, both cats interact with us all the time. Also, check out the topic on this form called "Socializing F2s." It's full of my frustrations from those first few weeks, and all the great advice I received.

Thank you Amanda, you have two hansome kitties. We are going to do everything we can to spend lots of time with her today and tomorow but with cooking for 25 people tomorrow is going to take alot of my time from me. I fed her this morning and she ate and let me pet her for a good 10 seconds and I let her be after that. I gues the day she trusts us will be a great day for our home, we just cant wait :) Patience is a virtue (I just have to keep telling my self that lol).

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving everyone.

Happy Thanksgiving to you, too! Also, here's something helpful: http://www.catster.com/cat-behavior/cat-body-language. I can't find the original document someone posted here, but this is similar. We printed off the pictures and left them on our coffee table. We came to realize quickly that Cappy is very expressive in his body language. Once we only started trying to pet him when his body language was right, I think he came to trust us more. I think we were pushing an already-stressed out cat initially. You might also try plugging in a Feliway dispenser: http://www.feliway.com/us/. This worked like a charm for us. We now have them all over the house.

I love that Layla let you love on her this morning. Good luck with all the cooking!!! I don't envy whomever has to do those dishes. :)

Hope everyone had a wonderful turkey day, I am still exhausted from cooking... Today will make the first week that Layla has been with us and so far she feels more comfortable roaming in our master bed/bath and sitting room. She has jumped on the bed, plays a lot but she still won't allow us to pet her much if any at all. Her diet has been mainly chicken liver and dark meat with chicken broth. I guess I'll post our progress here for future owners as to what to expect. I think the day she lays on our lap or allows us to pet her will be a huge break through :)

Forgot to mention, my dog used to cry and whine when I stopped playing with him, I am amazed how dog like Layla is, she sits and screams at me if I stop playing with her... Playing only stops on her terms when she feels like she had enough.

To this day Rascal nor Mayhem will sit on my lap. It's just not in them. But Mayhem will sleep on my legs when I am in a recliner watching football. But the head bumps are every day.

About the playing..... 100% Savannah. That's how they roll. Sort of.... deal with it! Sometimes they don't have enough for over an hour.

It sounds like Layla is progressing on her own terms, which is just fine, IMHO. I am a bit concerned about her diet though, unless you are adding a supplement or feeding her whole raw (bone in) chicken, otherwise I wonder if she is getting enough calcium and other nutrients?
