Newly owned by two F2 boys

Happy Friday to all! The boys are still unnamed (we've pretty much decided on Rocky for the one on the right in my avatar photo -- he can box a feather teaser like no one's business). They've settled into their play area, and they are providing us with lots of laughs. They've found new nooks to hide in from which to attack one another. They've also started taking their play breaks near us. Doug (my husband) was rewarded with a long pet and purr session from the other boy last night, and I got the same treatment this morning. It's a good thing I need a way to pay for kitten food, or I'd start playing hooky from work to get more of that treatment! Rocky is still the shyer of the two, but he did plop down next to me to catch his breath last night. I barely moved a muscle so as not to scare him off. Progress! That's the other little boy below in his nook, and Rocky trying to figure out a way around the barricade I made last night to keep them from falling down our metal stairs. I knew my husband's stinky hockey goalie pads would come in handy someday. :)

Holly and Dale sure raise some gorgeous cats! That is an amazing cattery they have!:)
I have two F3 brothers (but different litters) from them. Each one earned their name in about three days. Rascal and Mayhem. I am confident you will find an appropriate names for them. Congrats and enjoy!
If you are from Illinois, how about Percy and Blago for names!!!!!!

Hooray Amanda! Purrs & pets are great aren't they? You'll be over the moon when you start getting head butts. I think they're the best thing evah!

You guys are doing the right things to get the kits used to you and to trust you. I think that the shy one will learn from your interactions with the other boy that humans are a good thing. I tried for 2 months to bond with my Maliik when I first brought him home but he didn't "get" it until his quarantine was over and he saw the other cats interacting with me.

Reading aloud in their room, working on your laptop, folding laundry (which will take longer when they decide to help), any routine human activity will draw their curiosity and bring them physically closer to you.

To get Maliik used to being touched, I played with the feather stick and would run the handle along his back. Eventually I'd run my finger over his back, then 2 fingers, & finally my hand. I can pet him during play time and when he's resting; otherwise, he's a moving target. But, hey, considering where we started (when his only interaction for weeks was to hiss so hard my face was slathered in cat spit), we've come a long way.

Moral of story -- each cat will decide his level of comfort with the two of you and patience is definitely needed. It was a virtue I sorely lacked until I got my SVs. Being a glutton for punishment, I have 3 and they test my patience every single day and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Love those name suggestions! They now have official names -- the boy on the left is Lucky (for Lucky Luciano) and the boy on the right is Cappy (for Al Capone). We went for a different type of Illinois gangsters. :)

Lucky jumped in the shower with me this morning -- he did laps around my ankles while I washed my hair. Cappy stuck his nose in a few times, but he's decided to take it a little more slowly. See post-shower Lucky below.

I'm getting loads of purrs and pet-time with Lucky. Cappy is definitely starting to come around. He'll come near me, purring loudly. He still dodges away when I reach out to pet him, but I see this as major progress. Love these boys! Deborah, I like your advice above -- I've been petting him with his feather teaser, and he seems to really like it.

try this, make a tent with your legs folded knees up and a blanket or towel and let the shy one go in there.
