Interesting article - I don't agree with all of it, but much of it is spot on!
I agree with you, I didn't think it was a great article, but some of the comments were even better, noting that cat behaviors were being interpreted from a person' point of view rather than a cat's; for example, one person noted that if you call your cat and he doesn't come, it's not that he didn't hear you or otherwise ignored you, it's that he heard you, lifted his head to smell your scent (probably assumed you did the same), and was comforted so went back to his nap.

:paw:

I also agree with you that cats like to be in tight places, Dante would sit in a box all day if I let him lol but when your parent(s) treat your pets with such disdain it's easy to take that personally :(

My dad tells me on a daily basis that he hates Zeddie. Mostly it is because she gets on the counters, but it still makes me mad. Zeddie just lets it slide as she is better than me

Wow I'm sorry Kristin!! :( I don't know how anyone could hate the precious face! Luckily my dad has never said that but he did give me an ultimatum of declawing them or getting rid of them because I can't afford to live on my own yet. It was probably the hardest thing I've ever done. I bawled the whole drive there and back when dropping them off and picking them up. I have always said I would NEVER EVER do that and I did.. He is building a new house right now for him his fiance and her daughter and told me I am more than welcome to still live with them but the cats aren't.. First I am forced to do something I find inhumane and then he says they aren't welcome in his house! It also doesn't help that Charlotte (black one) has been different ever since the declaw.. She never gets on the cat tree and I think it's because shortly after the surgery she tried and fell all the way down.. It was terrifying. They deserve better and will have a whole room dedicated just to them and their needs in the new house! My boyfriend and I are going to build all sorts of fun kitty things in there!!

Is he the same way with the birds? :(

I don't get what makes people hate animals. Even one of my closest friends claims to be "allergic" but having known her for so long I know for a fact she has no allergy--if she's in a pet-friendly house and doesn't know it she'll have no reaction whatsoever, but the moment a pet appears suddenly she needs a hospital? come on. She insists that it has nothing to do with an encounter she had with a GSD when she was a baby, but her actions betray her.

No, my dad absolutely loves the birds. My mom has always loved the fluffies and my dad the feathers. His parrot is the one that is in the family room with everyone, while the other 3 are in the "bird room". He doesn't have anything to do with them, really. He doesn't understand why I am a nut about animal nutrition, and got mad at me when I told him the birds needed blinds in their room (which we still don't have). Really, it just depends on his mood. He doesn't actually hate Zeddie, he just doesn't like some of the things she does. He brags about her to his friends and laughs when she does something ridiculous. But he doesn't view animals as beings, only as things. He doesn't even know I'm an animal communicator

As a kid growing up I was raised with the idea that cats were hate-worthy or only good for keeping rodents and snakes out of the barn and food supplies. I was not raised on a farm, being the first non-farming generation.

I must have been destined to be a cat person since I was definitely an animal person. I had a great relationship with my dog, and most other animals. My family also regaled me of how as a toddler every time Tom from the Tom and Jerry cartoon got hurt I would cry.

While I never actually hated cats I distrusted them due to my upbringing. Then two of my friends got hitched and were given a retired Persian champion named Dusty. That cat made me a project. I was the only person he would meet at the door (not even the owners got a door greeting), and he insisted on kneading my chest and purring up a storm while standing on my lap when I was at their place. After Dusty showing me cats could be very cool, I have had no problem with cats.

Somehow I have become a magnet for pregnant female cats, stray and household. One morning at work dispatching tugboats in Baltimore harbor, the pier cat surprised me when she lept into my lap and curled up, purring the whole time. I didn't have a cat then so I was clueless as to why a very pregnant cat would risk that with someone she never met before. Years later while visiting a friend with waaayyy too many cats and ferrets, her very preggers cat that she claimed was too shy to let people pet her, did the very same thing as the pier cat having never met me. A month later my neighbor's cat walked into my appartment while he and I talked just inside my doorway, and she gave birth to the first of two kittens right at my feet. That is how I ended up with my second cat. I don't understand it, but I value cat's opinions, so I must be ok. :)

I guess my point here is that some people come at cats with preconceptions and might be able to learn just how wrong they are. Keep working on those non-cat poeple.

I have never been able to understand parents who take it upon themselves to be so disrespectful and denigrating to their children - apparently they have no idea how destructive this type of behavior can be... :(

Tell me....... what happens when a nice lady sits in your lap?

Currently, I beg her to get up because of the pain in my back. Under normal circumstances their pregnant cats get jealous. :p:roflmao:

Sadly it has been a while since a nice lady sat in my lap. I am hoping to remedy that in the not too distant future. Cross yer paws for me. ;)
