Well, let me just say!! both my cats are spayed and neutered, but Crazy in ALL over Katniss lately.. He is now 15 months and he is acting like a hormonal teenager... he jumps her from the back and bites her neck and stays there..his mouth like half open and pratically drooling.. It's ridiculous!! sometimes I actually have to put him in his room for five minutes to change his thought (or lack thereof!!!) so I think the hormones really don't go ALL away!!
How long ago was Crazy neutered? Oh, I hope those hormones/phermones subside! Would make life easier for everyone.

It isn't always about 'getting it on' when cats mount one another- Crazy may just be crazy ;)

My Selkirk mounts stuff animals quite often- he's obviously not trying to mate them! (He is neutered too).

Um, I think with your girl- I wouldn't worry too much about her giving off girly hormones. It may take a few weeks for things to settle in her system, but I'd probably neuter your baby boy before introductions anyways. And I would probably set about introducing them about two weeks after the neuter- he isn't that old, right? Still a kitten? So he hasn't even had the influx of hormones that males will get as of yet.

I think if you want a pet, then spay her asap. Unless you truly want to be a breeder then there is every bit as much heartache as joy in breeding...and not as profitable as you might assume.

Don't assume you are safe because your girl is an indoor only cat... the number of times we get contacted about cats escaping the house and oops they haven't had her spayed yet. The hormones when they are in heat drive them to be more desperate about getting out to find a mate...

And yes, as mentioned, repeated cycling without being bred runs a risk of uterine infection which can be life-threatening...

Thanks, been sitting on this question of breeding Mystique for a while now. I almost feel guilty if I dont let her beautiful personality and genes to continue on. Honestly I have no desire to breed Savannah's, so the only way for Mystique to have babies, would be for the breeder to take her back to her home and have her from start to finish and the babies find good homes. (Yes, my husband laughs because I call kittens/cats - babies!).

We run a successful business (nothing to do with cats) and I would agree that breeding Savannah's wouldn't be profitable. Those who breed for money only, shouldn't be. Hopefully it is more for the "love" of the breed, and to carry on the Savannah breed....

Before I was in a MVA, my other career was nursing the elderly, disabled, sick, and dying. UTI's in humans are scary, but was not aware of what cats/Savannah's might suffer from. Thanks for that knowledge.

I have always had cats, since I was little. Savannah's seem to have special care needs, from diet, exercise, and environment. Mystique is a very active, and lovely baby! If she gets spayed and becomes more loving, she will be by my side 24/7! lol (or if she goes the other way and becomes Crazy! Gawd help us all!)

When Mystique has been in heat, she doesn't make it down to the lower level of the house, to escape out the front foyer. She seems to be too busy attempting to maul my older 18 year male neutered cat. He just ignores her and goes to sleep. Meanwhile Mystique's back end is in his face....what a picture of glory, that is!

Thanks for informing me of when it is best to spay a Savannah. I wouldn't want my baby to get sick. (Jason E and Brigitte) :)

Remember- too- you are always, always taking a risk breeding. We all love our cats, but there is risk involved and it's not just pyo. Emergency c-sections, etc, can result in the loss of your queen.

Yes, wouldn't want to lose my baby!

Good point! Thanks

And her brother Crazy !

Then I guess I am out of luck! They were neutered and spayed before I got them a year ago now!! :sneaky:

Thanks for the help! Triton will be 7 months on the 23rd. Just out of curiosity, how old are males usually, when the hormones start flowing?
