I wrote this last year- it gives an outsider a clear view on how quickly things can go WRONG...

Wow, what a sad eyeopener! I never even considered breeding, but I'm so glad I read this! I knew a lot of emotion was invested, but I can't imagine the amount of worry; time after time that all of you breeders have to endure. Gives me a whole new appreciation for where our precious babies come from! Thank you for sharing that again.

If I had posted the clear photos of Emma's tummy- most everyone would be tossing their cookies. She had the most vile, disgusting OMG- make me want to puke- infection from that pregnancy and the subsequent issues. And I was a vet tech for a few years and worked rescue for many more, but it was literally the most disgusting thing I had ever seen.

Thanks, been sitting on this question of breeding Mystique for a while now. I almost feel guilty if I dont let her beautiful personality and genes to continue on. Honestly I have no desire to breed Savannah's, so the only way for Mystique to have babies, would be for the breeder to take her back to her home and have her from start to finish and the babies find good homes. (Yes, my husband laughs because I call kittens/cats - babies!).

Yes, but the breeder has her mom and dad, right? Those genes are being passed on without the need for Mystique...

Think on this, sending your pet away for months and months? Mystique would miss you terribly and I am sure you would too... I can't imagine doing that, even with my breeding girls (who happen to also be my housepets). I did years ago send a girl of mine to be bred, but not to spend her entire pregnancy and raising kittens there... that in effect could be 5 months (or more if she didn't take the first heat cycle) she was gone!

My husband said almost this exact same thing to me...I could not be without my baby for that long. Specially if a complication arose, during the pregnancy.

Made a final decision to get Mystique spayed. It is the best decision all around! Thanks for everybodys help today. :)

I see a lot of nasty things where I work, so I can withstand quite a bit. Mucous is what turns my stomach. Sorry your girl had to go through all that!

One of the strays we used to feed got pregnant at a very early age. She gave birth to one near our roses, and the poor baby was stillborn. The rest wouldn't deliver. She took off and we didn't see her for a few days. When we finally did see her, she was full of infection, and maggots were crawling out of her. We tried to catch her, but she ran away, and we never saw her again. To say I cried my eyes out, is an understatement. It makes me so sad that nature can be so brutal. Whenever something horrendous happens to children or animals, it rips my heart out.

Nature can definitely be brutal. I've heard lots of people say basically, why do we put so much effort into newborns- OBVIOUSLY cats give birth all the time in the wild and have no issues. I'm like, "How many kittens do you think actually SURVIVE to 10-12 weeks?"

My baby, Mystique is at the Vet today getting spayed. Hope all goes well! I can pick her up later today.

She is getting a microchip also, instead of a tattoo.

She wont be too happy when she gets home, but will thank me for it later.

Last night she was cuddled up to me and wouldn't leave the bed. I wonder if she knew something was instore for her this morning?

My husband dropped her off and the Vet was cuddling her in his arms, by the time he left. So that was great to hear.

Let you know how it goes....
