Another update. Slow boat is close, dock workers slowdown slowing things down. Shipping soon. Note that these west coast dock workers slowdowns have affected several projects, not just this one. Text:

"January Updates

Hi guys, we wanted to let you know that the container with the replacement parts is on its way to LA Harbor, and is right off the coast of Huntington Beach at the time of this update. Please note Long Beach Harbor is very congested right now due to labor disputes which have been in the news recently:

This congestion may slow down the container on its way to our warehouse in Camarillo. Once the ship docks and the container is off-loaded, we will schedule a truck to deliver the container to our warehouse. Our team will begin placing the good Side Track parts in the existing wheel boxes immediately, so that we can deliverer all the wheels as quickly as possible.

If I'm reading the site correctly, the ship is already at anchor in Los Angeles - excited to hear you will soon be getting your wheel! I know there are many here who are anxiously awaiting your report on it.

Just for information: (I worked as a dispatcher of tug boats years ago) "At anchor" means anchored in the harbor, but not yet at the dock. Harbors have areas designated as anchorages where ships waiting for the berths to clear so they can dock, wait without impeding traffic.

Under normal conditions wait times at anchor can range from a couple hours to a week. When there is a work stoppage or work slowdown it can stretch quite a bit. Hopefully this vessel will be docked and off-loaded in good time and not have to wait excessively.

Tort, you have this all wrong. I used to surf quite a bit, and at anchor means that the ships have been strategically positioned to ruin the waves at prime surf spots. This only started happening after the Gidget movies of the late 50s and early 60s to reduce beach overcrowding. By the 1970s and a true counterculture "surfer" lifestyle emerging their was CIA and Navy involvement, culminating in operation "Navy Don't Surf".

There's much more to all of this and many others like you who were unwilling participants.

I missed all of that. My dispatching was late eighties into early nineties, east coast. We have actual harbors that are not good for surfing even without ships.

However, what you describe started far earlier and even farther east. It was then called "who gave permission to build a German battleship in our fjord?".

Most likely something like at berth and may give the berth number and other info such as expected departure date and time.
