Tried taking Triton outdoors yesterday. He must have had a flashback to the trip to the vet for his neuter  because he wanted no part of it!

Try to do it slowly...can you hold him? Or put him in a carrier and take him out, so he isn't so scared? Cinny and Ixas were petrified as kittens...taking them for 5 min a day and then increasing the time really helped...all the sounds and sights scare them at first, since it is all new to them. Even Taj, who has been walking outside since 4 months old, gets scared with loud noises and wants to bolt...

Yes, he can be held, but he clings like Velcro! We also feed stray cats so I wonder if the smell of them in the area may bother him too...is that a possible added stress?

Awww...he is scared...Ixas does the same thing at times and he has been going out since he was 5 months old...it was too cold to take him in the winter...

Yes, the smell of other cats is probably not helping him. Is there a park or anything nearby, where you can talk him in the car and just hold him for about 5 min, then maybe put him down for 5 min? Is he ok in the walking jacket? Or does he need to get used to it as well...

He outgrew his first walking jacket, and we got a new one not too long ago. He's still getting used to it. I wonder what makes cats feel that a jacket causes paralysis? It never ceases to crack me up! :roflmao: My son's elementary school is right around the corner from where we live. Only trouble is that dog owners love to take their dogs for walks there. We do have some parks, but it would entail a few miles in the car.

Yes, the walking jackets will do that...sometimes I like the harnesses better because the cats do not fall over ;) My kitten Agenor went to the Netherlands...they bought him a harness, put it on him and that was it...I did the same thing with Cinny...put it on her and away we went.

It may be good to put Triton in the car and take him a bit away for a bit...I do that and it seems to work wonders...also the outdoor enclosure works well in the spring and summer...especially for Zuri who gets cranky with Ixas and Cinny...she LOVES to be outside and stays out there for hours at a time...

My cats hate their jackets, but I've spoiled them by letting them run around in the backyard without them on.
