peeing on my furniture!

Hmmm, if your boy's urine reeks that much I would question how successful his neuter was. Normal cat pee (Savannah or otherwise) is not horribly smelly, but an intact male's urine is about the stinkiest thing you can smell. There is a possibility that he had an undescended testicle they didn't find, or even left a piece of his testicle behind when resecting it. If so, the outside cat could be triggering his hormones, leading him to urinate inappropriately. I believe you can run a blood test to check hormone levels to confirm this one way or the other -- ask your vet when you see him tomorrow.

As the others have said, you need to thoroughly clean the spots that were peed on - that means soaking that mattress and chair pad all the way through (believe me, the urine soaked all the way through). Follow the directions on whichever product you purchase (both products that Pam mentioned work quite well) and repeat if needed.

Of course none of this will accomplish anything in the long run unless you remove the trigger(s), which sounds like it means removing the cats outside. If these cats don't belong to anyone consider trapping and altering them - check with your vet or local animal shelter to see if they have a TNR program so that it doesn't cost a fortune. Use the Fabuloso or other cat deterrent to try to keep the other cats away. Hopefully the behavior will resolve on its own in time - believe me, I know how frustrating this can be for you!

One of my cats used to :poop: on the floor so I thought I would try this new litter from Blue Buffalo called Herbal Attraction...it's all natural. It really worked! Nothing on the floor!:big grin: It will probably work with cat urine too!

Thanks for the info Diane! I've not heard of Herbal Attraction before but I'm guessing it's similar to Cat Attract, and that's a very good suggestion. These type of litters usually have a very high success rate of retraining a cat, although it may not be quite as successful if their inappropriate peeing behavior is being triggered by other cats/jealousy/territory issues.

Agreed with Patti that his urine should not be stinky if he is properly neutered...

And Dante's process for cleaning is great!

thank you t
I was able to clean my mattress with the following procedure:

Anti-Icky Poo

Let it soak in, followed by baking soda...let it sit for a bit, then vaccuum it up. I did this a few times, just to make sure.

Next I sprayed

Zero Odor

When I was fairly certain the odor was gone, I used this on top:

Lavender Hydrosol

This stuff is really good at getting rid of smells and cleaning stuff, and works wonders on pests like fleas and bedbugs.

Then I bought a waterproof bedspread, without which I would have not lasted nearly 3 years with a problem peer.

@Kristin was also amazingly helpful in trying to figure out the source of the problem, but my guess is you've already got that figured out. Still, she might be helpful in convincing your boy he doesn't need to protect you.

HTH

Thank you thank you!! I took him to the vet today, and he was positive for bladder infection. BUT, I did purchase the icky-poo and will be cleaning off my porch from where the stray sprayed on it. :)

I'm glad you had him checked then!

Definitely go ahead with your cleaning plans anyway...

So glad you had him checked out! The bladder infection might well be the reason for the peeing, too. Cats sometimes have ways of telling us they don't feel good.

Fingers crossed Chester is soon good as new!

The bladder infection is probably the cause of the stinky pee as well - sooo much easier to deal with than an incomplete neuter -- phew!!
