Photo Contest Cancelled

I'd personally prefer someone to choose with an eye to what a Savannah should look like in addition to being a nice picture...
But if a person with an eye to what a savannah should look like judges the photos, then the snows, cinnamons and anything else that does not come up to the breed standards, would not be chosen. All weekend long another thread has been active re Savannahs that are loved and are beautiful although they can not be shown. If a photo was selected by someone not familiar with breed standards , but is a great photo, than maybe a sentence or two at the bottom of the photo could explain that the cat shown is an unacceptable pattern or color and educate all that see the calendar. Most of the members of this forum do not breed or show and this would educate us. Just my thoughts. Sue

The contest will be decided by the members of this forum - period. I am just going to have to do some additional coding to make sure there is no cheating.

Nice, let's make sure it adheres to TICA breed standards.

I personally think the nonstandard colors would still be chosen as long as they still look Savannah. In Rescue we find Savannahs in all colors and have pulled ones out of shelters labeled "domestic shorthair" because they weren't spotted etc.

Personally I'd rather see the nonstandard color/pattern in a Servally shape than a BST that looked like a bad Bengal... I just think if something is going to be labeled a Savannah Calendar they should look like a Savannah? Maybe I am in a minority?

All of the photos have savannahs that look like savannahs...so we should be happy with the outcome ;)

Now you are just being snide, John, very disappointing.

You're right Brigitte I was being snide. It's also because I care about this forum and know people are here because they love their pets. They don't care that they meet your criteria, they just love them and want to share information about how to care for them. In fact I think your post tears at the spirit of the site and smacks in the face of the many members who have non-standard Savannahs. Then it's supposed to be a contest, something that should be fun, something that should put a smile on peoples face and far removed from the technical attributes of what you believe a Savannah should look like.

I care about this forum, I've supported it from the beginning. I care about breed education too, and helping people with their Savannahs.

I've said that I might be in the minority for caring how cats look, but it is the essence of what makes a Savannah a Savannah no matter how you ridicule that. I think it completely possible to achieve that with cute pictures of kittens in cute poses too. And in poses that show why we love them.

A sense of inclusiveness for all the members here whether they're owners of marbled, striped or purple Savannahs is something that should be espoused. I am feeling a lot less than comfortable with all of this as I believe there are a lot of lines in the sand where none should exist.

There are no lines in the sand...the contest is for everyone...the members here will choose the photos as I have already said...we have some awesome photos and I cannot wait to see the outcome!!!

Brigitte cares deeply about the forum and has devoted many hours of her time here to help everyone, so can we please just agree to disagree and move on?
