Thanks, Kim! (Coolcat's wife here) Sounds like you're one busy woman! Did it take quite awhile for your cats to get used to one another? You wouldn't happen to be the owner of Tater Salad, would you? Coolcat told me about the SV...I got such a chuckle over the unique name (I just love potato salad) that I wanted to see a photo.

LOL...yes we are a busy family but I wouldn't have it any other way!! No, I don't own a Tater Salad LOL...what a great name! We have a Spanky (F1), Zumi (F6) and Siri (F1)

We've only had Siri are couple of weeks and she and Zumi are best of buds. Our other F1 always takes awhile to warm up...I would guess in another few weeks they'll all be playing together.

It shouldn't... they are more irritated about the idea of spending that time in a carrier than anything... not big on being confined :-(

Nope, not that I have read. You are better off just playing with them intensely and cutting off food after breakfast consisting of just a snack so they are ready to eat after you leave the airport. The real tough time is going to be the pressure we feel from the neighbors if the mewing or crying starts. The vocal aspect is going to rear up but I think that being in the 2nd row and actively calming will be preferable then sticking to the letter and must be under the seat in the carrier at all times. If you can bring your stuff up to your lap or the seat once in flight, I see no issues having the carrier on the lap and giving attention inside the carrier. The alternative is annoying the piss out of everyone and in the case of an escape, be that much harder to deal with then being in close physical contact.

I have a 3ft-6ft at max extension 1/2 inch wide pink nylon lead that I will use while giving attention or in the case of a naughty kitten really looking to claw and bite their way out. I've been badly clawed by a paw from a kitten who despised vet visits as the passenger in charge of calming said cat down. I just hope that a well socialized kitten is not going to rip me to shreds. That's what the first hour or two are for at the airport upon first meeting, to get the scents, smells, initial comforting down so it's not right into the TSA line after an quick paperwork exchange.

I don't fear an accident, cats good about the potty will hold it unless they get terrified and the real test is how they react to riding in the car. Confined, loud, strange, unfamiliar, and I'm going to ask Victoria about Isis and her car rides. That will prepare me for what's coming on Friday late afternoon for our flight to Santa Barbara, CA and home.

Also, if you have a 5hr drive or a 4hr flight, why on earth would you go the flight route and deal with all of the drama and expense that entails? For god sakes, drive and you have a lot more freedom to pull over and deal with an emergency whereas when you are in the air, YOU are confined too with limited options available. Especially since a passenger in a car is not going to cost you an extra seat. I tried in vain to find a very cool BST F2 or F3 on the west coast that called to me so it was within driving distance, but there were none that were cool colored of the right age except an F3 female out of Monster Katz in Las Vegas and I didn't click at all the same way as I did with Isis.

Sorry, I probably didn't explain my situation well enough. The flight time would actually be an hour, the rest is transit time to and from the airports and waiting in the terminal. My portion of the ticket wouldn't cost me anything as I travel for work and it would come at the tail end of a work week. I opted for the drive last time and will likely do so again.

There are other factors as well as in the winter that 5 hour drive could double or get abandoned mid way and end up in a hotel. Been there, done that too many times. Also the amount of attention I can give a kitten on the drive is pretty close to zero outside of frequent stops that lengthen the trip. In the end, you try to place the least impact you can on the kitten and ideally for us the best solution would be car travel with two people although for us that might not be a reality.
