Question on gender choice and intergration of new pet.

As I said, it is a risk you run. I think many take an early liking to be a complete bond...but imho any awkwardness and difficulty in keeping to the two week quarantine will be quickly forgotten when over. I know it is hard to go through though and understand the temptation. But I can't say that a few days is just as good as two weeks...for most cases.

Thanks for serving the quarantine issue up as a reminder Brigitte! Just a few weeks away from getting our new kitten home and while I'm pretty much certain that Chongo won't take any exception, I need those two weeks to convince myself that I am the one in control of this situation.

Some other questions come to mind on this topic as I think I would like to put Chongo in the carrier after the first week and allow our new kitten to explore some other rooms in our home. If it's a bad idea, I certainly understand and can go another direction, just seemingly a good way to keep the kitten safe but in Chongo's view. Not so much worried about the older cats, as I know how they'll respond, basically with indifference and a quick notification of where the boundaries are.

Ok I have been wondering what exactly you meant by this post.... What would that look like if a new cat liked you versus was bonded to you? Aren't some just naturally affectionate? If your new kitty sleeps with you, cuddles and follows you around, that's bonded right?

To me it is obvious to me which cats are strongly bonded to me versus those that like me but are more bonded to someone/something else. It doesn't "look", it feels different. There's a level of bond I guess, an intensity... just like you have some casual friends and some dear friends? You might find that a cat that was not so bonded to you but bonded to your other cat would sleep on your bed only if the other cat was already there for example.

Yep - Ixas and Cinny are definitely more bonded to each and Zuri than me...but that is fine with me...they love me, but not as much as they love each other ;) Taj and Zuri are bonded to me.

Ahhh I see..... I let my kitten run with my other cat sooner than 2 weeks, but he seems pretty affectionate.... :/ he was dang near impossible to keep cooped up in my room.

I started letting Zeddie out when I was with her after a week (she stayed in my room when I wasn't home) and she is super bonded to me as opposed to my dsh, but he is older and crusty and doesn't like her hahah

LOL funny! My older cat loves having someone to play with... She is so much more affectionate now! And playful. I think she had gotten bored and kinda lonely.... Much more pep in her step now :) I think it's working out well so far though they both get a little carried away sometimes with their play. So I am always around to supervise!
