Question re blood test results

You've mentioned a lot of things your vet has ruled out based on chemistry etc. What I'd like to hear is what he has found on clinical examination, and what the medical history of the cat has been. Have you ever dewormed, vaccines, feeding, past problems and other cats with problems, ectoparasites, mosquitoes: you really need to pressure your vet into saying what it might be, what his diagnostic theory is, not just let him run you up a large bill on machinery! Good luck, and there is always a reason for the problems you describe, pressure your vet into finding out!

Until now, Nadia has never been ill. My Scottish Fold had a urinary tract infection last year and Tink had T.F. , 2 years ago. All 3 cats are seen at the same vet office, all have been rechecked after they were ill and received a clean bill of health. Vet said that the high calcium could be a lymphoma and that is why she would like an ultrasound done. Nadia and the Scottish Fold were both shelter cats that we adopted when they were only a few months old, thus have been in the same household for almost 11 and 9 years. We added Tink to our family almost 3 years ago. They get a can of Fancy Feast Elegant Medlies every morning and have Good Life dry food available all day. Treats are Good Life and Friskies ' crunchy treats. We do not have any fleas (it has been over 10 years since I last saw a flea). All 3 have had their urine and poop checked at their last check ups. CJ and Tink got their routine shots last year. Nadia had not had shots in about 2.5 years and vet decided not to immunize at this time until we figure out what is wrong.

Wow, Jesse - I'm so sorry! Did your vet do an ultrasound though? Exploratory? Those tests and surgery will usually give the answers.

Sue, an ultrasound will give you either an idea or a diagnosis, but I have learned that ultrasound results can be misread.

Teeth should be checked. I agree Trish. I would have the vet thoroughly examine her teeth.

My 11 year old Russian Blue has lost a lot of weight. She is down to just over 6pounds. I took her to vet Thursday. Vet has ruled out diabetes, CRF, hepatic , thyroid. Vet could not palpitate any abnormality in the abdomen, lymph nodes were normal size. The superchem test showed high calcium 13.3 ( normal is 8.2-10.8), WBC was high 17.3 ( normal 3.5-16.0). Platelet count was low 153 (normal 200-500). Platelet count reflects the minimum number due to platelet clumping. The Neutrophils were high 12,629 ( normal 2,500-8,500). The Eosinophils were high 1211 (normal 0-1000). She is still eating, drinking, seems ok except for the weight loss. Vet is suggesting an ultrasound versus X-ray. I said I would get back to them as to what I wanted to do next. She was a shelter kitty. She is an indoor and screened in patio cat only. I have noticed that one of the cats does throw up a clear foamy bile and some undigested food, but I don't know which cat and it has only been a few times during the last 2 weeks. Any help or suggestions as to what my next step should be are greatly appreciated. Thanks. Sue

You have my deepest sympathy! We lost our beloved Toonces to renal failure. By the time she was diagnosed, the doctor gave her about 6 months to live. My husband gave her Sub-Q treatments twice daily for the last few months of her life. She was 21 yrs. 4 mo. old when she passed, but that didn't make it any easier. My heart goes out to you.
