rabies vaccination and license - Los Angeles county

Yes, California is very tough. In Sacramento all cats are required to be licensed and have a rabies shot. Luckily they give 3 year rabies shots. You also can only have a certain amount of cats depending on your county. Just 3 or 4 max. I was lucky and went to court and was granted a small breeder license and was allowed to have 12 cats. That also is because none of my neighbors complained. They actually sent out letters before the court date within a 10 mile radius and if someone was against it and showed up in court it would not have been granted.
After I got the license, and had to renew it every year, I never heard from them again. They never came out to check on anything. Really, they just want the revenues.
I would venture to say someone turned you in as they just do not come knocking on your door out of the blue.
The license is required in LA county but not the city of LA. Our small community of 240 homes is on county land. I really think that they went door to door ringing doorbells to see whose unregistered dogs would bark. With us, of course, we had a sign announcing the presence of 2 cats! There are only a couple of neighbors that even know that we have cats as we walk them in the backyard, not the front. Our neighbors are all very easy going and live and let live types.
