Rafiki not eating

Spoke to breeder Mike and he also suggested the nutri cal so I ran out to Petco for some. He said that it tastes like crap and to rub some on her paw. He failed to mention what nutri cal does when the cat shakes her paw to get rid of it. Yup, nutri cal all over the walls and carpet. Oh well. She ate a ton of kitty crack afterwards. How long before this stuff takes effect?

I don't think nutrical is really an appetite stimulant... It is more of a mix of vitamins and high calories...

Maybe you can try the RadCat turkey or lamb. They usually have 1oz samples
I bought the lamb and turkey as well and will try them.
When I read up on reviews for Rad Cat, it said that the food was nice and pink. The stuff I got was not. Should it have been? It is also pretty close to the expiration date.

According to the package, it "Supports a healthy appetite". Not sure what that means exactly.

And btw.....thank you everyone for your advice and support. It really means a lot to me.

My sister in law has some of the old Darwin formula as she has an older cat that has not made the transition to raw. She mixes a small amount into regular canned food. I have spoken to her about possibly driving down there and trading. My breeder is also out in that neck of the woods and has offered me some of his home-ground raw. The only issue is that I do not get home from work until around 7 pm and with Los Angeles traffic, it will be quite late when I get down there. That is the next step if the nutri cal does not kick in.

Radcat chicken is not as pink as the lamb or turkey. But I guess you can make out if it's turning bad - it tends to form tiny bubbles and smells.

I guess I am wondering if it was freezer burned. I will try the other flavors tomorrow.

I fed Rafiki several more pieces of kitty crack at 10 tonight and then presented her with the minced cooked chicken that she snubbed earlier. She ate it all (about 1 oz.). And yes, she is definitely drinking a lot water tonight as a result of all this freeze dried chicken. That is one good thing - unlike Jammu, she does drink water even when fed only raw.

I have determined that she will eat all the kitty crack that I give her. She has yet to snub that unless it is contaminated with the nasty real food. She drinks and uses the litter box just like normal. She is still sweet and affectionate and playful.....she is "just" snubbing her real food. But again, Jammu (AKA kitty-pig and VERY food motivated) is snubbing the same food.

You mentioned earlier that you are considering making your own raw... Mike should be able to give you his recipe, but if you have Mazuri for slab try just dipping a corner of the cooked or freeze dried chicken into it to see if she will eat it with the vitamins. I'm pretty sure the Mazuri has taurine in it, so for the moment at least you don't have to worry about adding extra taurine.

I swear, these cats will be the death of us from stress alone!!!
