And as far as the change in formula is concerned.....here is the change in the meat portion:
Old: Chicken meat (inc. bone), chicken gizzards, chicken livers, chicken hearts; 15% crude protein, 6% crude fat.
New: Chicken Necks with ground bone, Chicken Backs, Chicken Thigh Meat, Chicken Gizzards, Chicken Livers, Chicken Hearts; 16% crude protein, 11% crude fat.
Interesting. The way the old formula is described, it appears that it contains more meat than the new. The new appears to contain too much bone -- chicken necks are pretty much all bone with a small amount of meat; chicken backs are all bone. This is just an observation from the company's description. It could be that the meat used in the old formula is just better described in the new one.

Without knowing the exact percentages of meat to bone in either formula, it's possible that the new formula contains too much calcium in the form of bone and not enough protein in the form of meat.

Looks like they are trying to save money by using chicken necks and chicken backs... Have you contacted them? If they get enough complaints, they will go back to the old formula

Yes, I have sent them several emails and have spoken on the phone as well.

Spoke to my old vet for about an hour tonight. She did not find the blood work numbers too alarming. She recommends getting a referral from soon-to-be-ex-vet to do an ultrasound at Access emergency vets. They are close by and she can try to be there for it. I have sent the request to Dr. G. She also gave me the name of a nutritionalist to try with the desired end state being food that is appropriate for whatever is ailing Rafiki and tasty to her as well.

According to Truthaboutpetfood.com, the Darwin formula was different in July 2013 as well. At that time, the formula also included catnip and the crude protein was 11% and the crude fat was 10%. Do these guys change their formula every 18 months?!

Your old vet sounds like a very special person and I am so glad that she will try to be there. My thoughts are with you and Rafiki.
