We brought both cats to the vet today for follow up bloodwork. Jammu also had a urine sample taken. Jammu is holding steady at 18.5 lbs. and Rafiki weighed in at 15.45 lbs. Test results are due on Monday. Hoping that we can finally get the liver issues under control.

I just got off the phone with my vet......Good News! Liver values for both cats are in the NORMAL range! Rafiki's ALT was 147 (high limit is 158) and Jammu's was 141. AST was 64 (high limit is 67) and Jammu's was 58.

We will continue with the Denamarin as an insurance policy but our pet sitter will not need to pill them while we are away. I will also keep adding milk thistle to the batches of food.

Jammu had elevated BUN (40 against a high limit of 37) and that was why the internal medicine vet had requested a urine sample. The kidneys are functioning properly so the elevated BUN is assumed to be a result of the raw meat diet plus some inflammation of the small intestine. Jammu does have a small amount of crystals in his urine so he needs more water. I have only seen him drink once in the 3 years that I have had him so I will continue to give him a syringe of water after his Denamarin. He actually is more opposed to getting the water than the pill. Silly boy. I will also add some additional water to his food.
