Loki finaly got fixed and gained a pound in a week. They also did the ultra sound and found out it was ok to do the fix. We are waiting for the results from the Cardiologist.
Tiger is 19 pounds F5C Male almost 2yrs
Bintu is 17pounds F5C Female 1yr and 5 months
Loki is 8 pounds Male 5 months

17 pounds is large.

Agreed that is a BIG cat. Only my Maine Coon is larger heavier than 17 lbs. My F2 boys are not that big!

You have BIG boys Jacqui, you hit the size jackpot with Mr. Razi, he is one of the largest domestic cats I have ever seen!

It seems there must be 1 or 2 very large savannahs out there that have gone to many shows, and have appeared in many photos and Youtube videos. I say this because it seems the general consensus is that savannahs must be large cats, the size of a golden retriever. Almost everyone who calls us thinks that they will be getting a savannah cat that is the size of their ancestors the serval! I am so glad to see that most other breeders have the same size savannahs that we do. It is also possible that because of the fictitious size that people think savannahs are, this is the very thing that may get savannahs banned. Somehow the actual size of a savannah should become publicized. Yes, some can become quite large, but most are the size that is quoted above, if not smaller.

You have pretty much hit the nail on the head. Back in the 'early days' there were several high percentage Savannahs shown in many, many TICA that unfortunately set the bar with judges back then, plus there have been a few large breeders who have traditionally capitalized on advertising the large size of Savannahs. It is a constant, ongoing struggle to counteract these myths. And I totally agree that the 'legendary' size of Savannahs often plays a role in their being banned.

In addition, there are some misleading pictures used over and over in media...one in particular makes it look like the cat is the size of a labrador retriever towing two small children. Every time someone at a show mentions how they thought they'd be bigger from what they'd seen in a magazine I will mention that image and they nod saying yes that's the one. Once I explain how photography has meant the cat appears larger than it is, they completely get it.

We DO get some tall Savannahs, but often they come in a litter with more average sized littermates. And the boys will be much taller than girls. What we need to keep emphasizing is that height is only one of the traits the Serval can bring to our breed...and many of us find the other traits more important. The elegance of build, the ears, the eyes...and the personality!

That is very true, Alison! I don't know how many times I have to explain to people that savannahs, are for the most part, perhaps a bit larger than a DSH or about the same size...and that few are "huge"...what hurts us are the websites guaranteeing a size of 30-35 pounds, websites claiming all the savannahs bred reach 25 pounds, etc. And then the websites talking about wild and exotic...savannahs are domestic and not exotic...this sensationalism is literally going to ruin it for all of us in the long run Pretty soon we are going to run out of places to live in the US, where our savannahs are legal.

For those of us fighting the battle to keep our savannahs legal, it becomes disheartening after awhile. What is going to happen eventually is there will be no F1's or F2's that are legal.

Zuri - F4 SBT - 8.5 pounds when not pregnant - as tall as Taj

It is so frustrating breeding one of the most outgoing, personable, unique and majestic cat breeds only to have so many people look down on them because they are not the SIZE they thought they would be. Savannahs are an amazing cat breed that should be given the respect they are due. I just wonder how those cat breeders can claim their cats adult size will be 30-35 pounds and not have everyone coming back angry that their savannah only ever grew to the normal savannah size of between 10 - 18 pounds (which is a generous size)!

It seems the first question people ask is: How big? And then they ask: How much?
These seem to be the only 2 questions the general public is really concerned about.
