Ring worms and diarrhea

Change vets- I definitely agree with Paige. It doesn't sound like you are comfortable with the protocol they want to use anyways. Poor babes!

OK, some folks may poo poo this but...
1) put them on IAMS Hairball formula dry OR Diamond Active Cat dry. That's it. No other wet or dry foods. Stick to ONE food until you know what is going on. Both these dry foods do wonders to help firm up stools.
2) Get the fecal PCR so that you know without a doubt what you are dealing with. Such a hit and miss approach is obviously not working.
3) Get the Health Guard Spray and spray it directly on the ringworm spots on the kittens.
4) You need to get something to address the spores now in your home. Ring Worm is NOT A WORM at all, rather a fungus that causes sores with raised areas that makes it appear there is a worm under the skin. Just like any other fungus (mushroom) it spreads via spores, and they get in your carpeting, bedding, etc.

I sure hope you get some answers! Good Luck

I hope I am posting correctly.. I am trying to reply to admin...Lo and behold this morning I found large worms in Dakari's poop. Look like white thin speghetti. I called the hospital/vet and asked why after 3 fecals it did not show up. Poor little ones have had diet changed so much from mis-diagnosis. So we went in for deworming for both today, and sent home with a one time each liquid med, and a pill for both to be given 2 weeks apart, then we go back in two weeks for a second deworming. Think after all this time since Oct 7th, 3 fecals they might have caught it. I am so disgusted as my poor little ones were told so many different things, and that the diet has been changed so much in that it could have been caught so much earlier. Thousands of dollars later it is worms...what the heck is wrong with this picture? I am so over it as not me, but my poor kittens who have suffered so long when this is so treatable....We R still doing the Hexaclor-K shampoo, but I think I am over the vets. I like healthguard suggestion. I think next Wed is like week 7 or 8 awaiting the ring worm culture. I will have to be exact by looking at our treatment calender. They say 10 weeks on 2nd culture from initial 5 week culture. I am so disappointed with these vets. My husband made a 500 or so sq. ft. room for them which they go wacky and crazy in...all the room running around and playing, they just love it up, but it is not quite finished, so we must monitor them to ensure safety. It has three windows, but only one is secured tight wired down, so until the other two windows R secure they can't be there by themselves as we don't want them to jump out. It is so funny though to see them wild and maniacs running around under strict supervision while we clean the other room. I am so excited when it will be done as they. And, I am so over the vets as they should have had them well by now....OK, then....TU...

Wow, Rose, I am shocked that this was not found sooner...your poor babies :( Sounds like you have done everything for them though and I am so sorry they (and you) are going through this...

I think you need to find a new vet - the sooner, the better...

Oh boy, I hate ringworm! I had a horror situation here too a few years ago. did you go through andlook at the other forum conversation on ringworm. I posted my steps to rid it. it took 3-4 months due to BAD VET. once I got a vet that took it serious and knew a lot about it, it was gone fairly fast...But I took an aggressive cleaning and medication approach at getting and keeping it out. Health guard is awesome! I still use it on all my towels and kids gym clothes!

Rose, this is where you need to tell the vet that you want a PCR panel done ASAP...just tell the vet you do not want to wait...or change vets...get a second opinion...your kittens' lives may depend on it.

And I would stop the baths...they probably aren't doing any good anymore anyway. The advice for ringworm is clean, use Healthguard fogger, etc...two baths a week is only costing you money and probably stressing the poor babies out so much...I would stop those baths Now...and go to another vet.

I thought Dakari had a long worm in his poop on Thursday, so Friday they dewormed. Will go back in two weeks for deworming again. Gave a pill to give in another two weeks to give again for roundworms, and a one time liquid med for both Dakari and Ajana. Well, it is now monday and still diarrhea, but have not seen any long worms in poop. I called vet today. We go in Wed. my kittens are so stressed all this back and forth to vet. The breeder emailed me today and told me to check for Tritrichomonas as she said she had a cat stud for service with diarrhea and 2 cats from another breeder who she fought with diarrhea for over a year. I wish she told me that in the 1st place. So here we go again Wed. for the PCR panel which I should have already had. I thought when I saw a long white thin speghetti thing it was what the vet said round worms. Since deworming again have seen zero of this sort but like mucus. The diet is slowly being changed from GI over two week slowly. These poor cats have had so many diet changes, stress of vets...I feel like a bad Mommy. I was just and have been doing what the vets tell me. The duck and potatoe allergy food diet slowly transitioned with Gi over 2 weeks did not work, as when I got 100% pure allergenic duck from vet they just stopped eating for two days. So I started the GI again as at loss. I know I am contributing to messing up their bellies. I just want them to eat. So now on sensitive GI stomach science slowly adding again over two weeks. Am at witts end as kittens can not take another food change. I hope they like this as this is my last ditch effort. I also am over this hospital as they see different doctors depending on the day. My loyal vet who cares for my other two is not treating them as he wants to sedate them for baths given their breed. He is good in that he comes to house for other two, but I will not have my Savannahs sedated for care. They R traumatized far enough. Game plan...PCR panel...they still R on bi-weekly hexachlor-K baths. 2nd culture to be ready 5 weeks which is 12/19. I just don't think they can handle this anymore. I want them out and running crazy like normal kittens. They otherwise R both fine. The 500 sq. foot room we built is just about done, but under husband or I monitoring we run them in it each and everyday. The door and two windows still need securing. We shut the two windows, and keep the one secure one open, and we makeshift a door while monitoring. Even if they got out the door it goes into a seperate 300 sq. foot enclosed room so there is no way they can get outside. Safe and secure.....OK, then...I will keep U updated....

Rose, please read my postings on Tritrichomonus Foetus . I dealt with it for about 10 months before I could get a diagnosis. I also posted a picture of the cow pie stools. The main symptoms are cow pie stools and an odor that would drive you out of the room. Dr. Jodi Gookins at NC State vet school is the leading authority. I printed lots of info off her website and called a lot of vet offices until I found someone that knew what I was talking about. I also had the vet office make copies of the info for all to read and become educated. Good luck. Sue
