Running with a Savannah Cat?

That's one of the awesome things about this forum, lots of good info and a shared appreciation for the cats.

This afternoon I had a SV with WAY too much energy on my hands, so after Mike and me finished our run (4 miles), I put the leash and harness on D, and decided to see if he would actually go for a run.
Our walks always go the same way, we turn left out of the driveway, left at the corner, go two blocks to the school, and go through the gate into the field. I frequently carry him there, then run around and play with him and let him climb the trees etc., but today once we hit the street, I encouraged D to lope along with me. We ran to the field, and then ran on to the track. My boy did a lap on the track with me without stopping, and when we got to the end I got the standard "can I pet your cat?" from the kiddos at the field, so I picked him up and they made friends (D has never met a human he doesn't like).
Then we ran home.
So the baby ran about .3 miles with me tonight, with one quick stop for a petting session. Not too far, but I expected him to come home and immediately go to sleep. No such luck. He ran around the house instead.
The pads of his feet are fine, nails are fine, and he wasn't at any point panting- he was tugging for me to go faster most of the way.
My conclusion? Next time we will try two laps. If he does well, we will work up from there.
Maybe you can run with a SV.

I usually carry a badminton racket with me (you can buy them for $2-3 on ebay) to remind Duma that we are going someplace. If I didn't do this, he'd get distracted. All the time. He gets distracted despite the racket. But he is a cat, even if he denies it.

While I was over in Germany I saw people taking their pets for bike rides all the time. They would have a little basket or pad on the back that the pet would sit on. It was mostly small dogs, but I did see someone with a cat in their front basket one time. Realize that's quite a bit different than running, but it was still interesting to see.

I bought a basket for my bike just to put Chuju in to ride him around. I have yet to do it though...

There's a guy here in the Mission district of SF that has a Segway he cruises around the streets on with his doggie perched on top with him...
