Savannah kitten behavior

Hey Nikki....

I am so happy for you....I have an F1 named Portia, shown left, (4 yrs old) and an F2B named Kaya (10 weeks old)...Kaya is the greatest kitten in the world....she is a cuddler and plays endlessy. She snuggles down at night on my pillow on either side of my ear...all night! So cute....Portia on the other hand is a different story. She won't let me pet her yet....at the breeder she was a LOVER and constantly wanted my attention...it is hard for me to believe it is the same cat...I have received great advice from my breeder and others on this great site....told to be patient and let her dictate everything....I cannot wait for the day when I can pet her and love her. She is the most beautifil cat I have ever seen. I can see by your story that you have dealt with similar things and I am encouraged that my fortunes will indeed someday change....I have had to learn patience during this time....patience is not by best attribute...anyway, I am happy for you....keep the updates coming! ;)

It has been a very long time since I updated, so I thought it was time.

Jarvis turned one year old on 2/28.

For the last few months, I have not posted much about Jarvis. That is mostly because Jarvis has been a very happy boy. Our nervous boy is no longer nervous.

Jarvis now meets us at the door for a quick hello when we come home. We routinely sit next to each other on the couch. Jarvis follows us around the house routinely; closed doors now elicit crying, so we have few of those. We are really enjoying how much he wants to socialize. When I cook dinner, he stays with me in the kitchen; when I read, he cuddles next to me; when mike plays on the computer, he cuddles next to him. He sleeps in bed with us every night, and he is routinely asking for a belly rub from both of us! For a kitten that was uncertain of himself and new people (and me!), it is a huge change. Today, we had friends over, and not only did he not run away and hide, he came up, sniffed our friends, and hung out. Did he nuzzle them? No. Did he stay in the same room, and observe? Yes. WOO HOO! YAY for a happier, more confident kitty!

Thanks Deborah. We are glad he is happy, it was so hard when he wasn't happy, and we didn't know how to make him happy.

All any of us can do is provide a safe, stable environment, send out love vibes, be patient & consistent and hope for the best. The rest is up to the cat. I find their behavior always fascinating. Jarvis and my Maliik are somewhat similar. I can pet him all I want on his terms. He purred for me today for the first time since he was 5 months old and he's 3 yrs old. These small moments mean so much, when you get validation that you did something right. Just wish they weren't so stingy about showing it sometimes.

Thanks guys.
Jarvis has been much happier and more confident in recent months, to such an extent that he now whines for attention, just like D does, and woe to he who closes a door to shut him out. We are really happy to see him happy and confident.
