I totally agree with Brigitte - some people assume that the breeders with the flashiest website and highest prices must be the ones with the best cats, but that just isn't necessarily so.

Also, if the price seems out of range for what you're looking at, look for a scam...

I think you need to define what is considered out for price range...For instance, if you see an F1 savannah for $1000, it is usually a scam, unless there are real extenuating circumstances...

From experience, I think wanting to force a generation into a budget where there isn't a match can be disappointing. I really wanted an F1 when I started looking for my second SV, but my max spend just wouldn't get me there. I knew my budget would allow for another f2 - perhaps not any f2 out there as I saw some that were breath taking but outside my range, however I could get another really nice cat. It helped me to focus my search on f2s instead of hoping to fall into money. As noted here, the earlier generations are more expensive, later generations become less expensive. A more typy cat will command more money (true in horses, too!). A pet quality will still give you an incredible kitty, that is just part of the breed!

I have a female f2 that I couldn't love more as you can tell by my Nyah gush posts. She would not be considered breeder quality for a few reasons, one being her quirky personality. I am sure the breeders here could point out other reasons if forced, but to me she gorgeous. As I have no intentions of ever breeding, a pet quality was just fine. I budgeted more for my 2nd because I knew male f2s command more money even though all they can be are pets. Kovu says that is because boy f2s are the best!

I think you have done the right thing by determining what generation fits your budget, recognize there will be price outliers, and recognize that a pet quality SV is still a very cool looking kitty no matter the generation. I was on my breeders list for future kittens when I got Kovu, which is something else to think about. I didn't limit to kittens available right then. Kovu was meant to be ours. Who else would put up with a quacking cat that has a licking fetish? Your kitten will show up and we will be so excited to share that with you!
