That's exactly what Shango weighed @19 WO as well. And your weight rates are similar, too. Sounds like he is doing good. Post neutering infection, when Shango did not eat due to the infection, I did administer vitamin B12 complex via 6ml water (~1:10 ratio per human daily recommended amounts). Did this about 4 times, and every time he would immediately go eat within about 30 min. dj

Is his belly swollen?

His belly's not distended. It's firm but not hard. His torso when viewed from the side appears to be the same girth from front to rear, with little to no "tuck up". As is proper, his rump sits higher than his shoulders.

I just looked at your profile. That's a helluva diary you've kept on Shango, who is, BTW a VERY VERY handsome F2!

His mother, Sabre, has the same name as one of Select Exotics' queens.

Relax. I have 2 F3's from Select. They are long, tall, and slim guys. When they hit 2 years, they start to broaden out at the shoulders. As young cats, they didn't seem to eat a lot. Look at my avatar. That's Rascal at 2 y.o. He's not fat nor skinny.
As long as they look and act healthy, I am happy.

I like their cats. If you look, you'll see a "Elite" F1 male advertised @ 23K. Very big bucks, and somewhat more than I paid for Louie.

I didn't know that they continue to grow past 2 YO.

Louie is narrow and "graceful" when viewed frontally. He looks like a classic Egyptian cat that are carved in antiquities. I suppose he will widen in the shoulders, although I wouldn't be disappointed if he didn't.

I understand that F1's are "supposed to be" very slightly longer and taller than later generations, although they are "supposed to be" about the same weight or even slightly less. This implies that the F1 is "supposed to be" slimmer than later generations. Small adult male servals are supposed to weigh AT LEAST 20 pounds, so the slimness of early generations seems to more closely mimic the slim build of the serval.

If you could elaborate on the B12 administration a bit, I think that would be very helpful.

Sure thing. Here's my B12 complex concoction recipe used for when appetite is way down and cat is not eating (like post surgery, etc):

a. Get a B12 complex tablet form, something like NatureMade Super B-Complex human kind from Walmart (e.g. B12=15mcg,B6=2mg & other vitamins like C are in it too). I split off about 1/10 of one tablet. This 10% is what others have reported for a dose for cats. Nothing scientific about it, it seems to work fine.
b. Grind this in a mortar/pestle.
c. Take these grinds and mix them in about 100mL of water (now nice and yellow). That's about 1/3 to 1/4 of Coke can for reference. This is my concentrate, which i might use for a few days.
d. Take a 1mL syringe and pull 0.6mL of the concentrate and mix it in with 6mL of water for a 1:10 ratio. I then administer this 6mL to Shango via a 12mL syringe.
e. Admin the 6mL maybe 1x or 2x per day before a typical feeding time.

Hope this helps...in truth I am probably diluting it a bit more as you can see from the concentrate. But I feel I want to be easy on the cat, and water is always a good thing and keeps them hydrated! Cats typically need 20-30mL water/day if I've heard right. So the 6mL just helps to supplement the water intake if he's not eating much, but I don't think overdoes it so much that the cat could throwup from too much water at once. I once tried giving Shango 12mL water at once - yes he threwup right afterwards! (stupid me!). He's never had any issues with 6mL of water for me though. dj

Thanks Louie! That's a popular name I think . Yeh, he's sorta a spittin' image of his Mom, though she as an F1 has more distinct spots, etc.

Tomorrow, his F1 bro Amaury arrives. Boy does he need a future playmate something fierce!! dj

Scorpius: cats need much more than 20-30 ml water pr day! But the dosing you´re doing is fine, 12 ml will make him fight back if he is reluctant at swallowing what he gets: usually you need to dribble it in. You can see if he swallows, watch the tongue and the throat.
Louis´dad: sounds perfect and normal: building length and height, not girth and 1lb 12 oz in a month is very good, keep that up for three years and he will have gained around 50 lbs... Seriously, stretching like he does and normal activity for a Savannah requires a lot of food. Make sure he gets all his protein, and don´t forget his minerals!

Thanks Per and Scorpius. That's good information for the handful of times I might want to stimulate one of our cats appetites. Over the last year I have become pretty skilled at pilling and administering liquids to our cats. Not something I look forward to, but good to have another tool in the arsenal if need should arise.
