Sick Kitten

A kitten not eating with that great of a weight loss is a serious situation. I would not wait until Thursday if she is not better, but insist on an xray and if that's not revealing then a barium swallow to assess for blockage. If that is also negative then a battery of blood test and cultures is in order (CBC, chemistries, diarrhea panel). Your vet can give you a syringe to feed her, or you can ask at a pharmacy for a 10cc syringe - explain what it is for and I'm sure they will be happy to help you out.

It's very important that she not get dehydrated or go too long without eating. You can also syringe feed her (human) baby food such as Beechnut stage one that ONLY has chicken and water, no other additives especially no garlic or onion.

I hope your baby starts to feel better soon - keep us posted!

Id take her back and say xray her now. Whip ate some toy filling and by the time he let us see how sick he was he couldn't walk 5 feet without puking. Couldn't drink or eat, :(

Thankfully after a day plus vet stay (he had to be sedated for xrays not a vet friendly boy) the xray showed the compaction was slow moving so he got fluid, fluid crystals, and antacids to calm his belly and 2 days later he was doing okay.

However without the vets help I honestly feel he could have died from the dehidration. :(

She had X-Rays, Barium test and blood work today. The vet didn't see any blockage and put some type of hydration/vitamin shot under her skin. She said the barium would coat her stomach somewhat like pepto coats our stomach and that she sheds lining ever 72 hours? so that should take care of the bacteria. If she doesn't eat in the next day she has has to be tested for IBS or some other colon issue. the vet also recommended feeding Lyra some type of kitten food for kittens with digestive issues.

I bought a baby mucus squirter on my way home last night to give her some meds, she vomited them up about 5 minutes later and instantly had diarrhea. That's why we decided to take her right away.

It's been a stressful week thus far, I'm hoping the vet is right that it's a 2-3 day issue now that we ruled out blockages.

I feel for you. You're heading down the right path and my thoughts are with you for a quick rebound for Lyra.

I would also call the breeder and find out what they were using for kitten food so you can get on that path when she's feeling better.

She purred this morning and jumped on the bed for the first time since Sunday. She ate about 5 bites of puréed boiled chicken and licked the juice out of a can of blue buffalo roasted turkey. I know that's not a lot of food for 2 days though hopefully it's a good sign she's getting better :)

She's fully recovered and back to normal! It took a lot of trial and error to get her to eat though we bought some chicken baby food and fed a bit to her on Thursday and by Saturday she was eating like there was no tomorrow. It's so crazy to think that a cat eating and finding a solid 'poop' in the litter box would bring so much happiness.

I appreciate all the great suggestions and concerns from everyone!
