Spay/Neuter rant

The potential customer you had, obviously had an ulterior motive.

Neutering/spaying by the breeder (as I do), is surely the best option for all concerned and once the kitten goes to it's new home, the new owner has had everything done for them, for the next 12 mths, barr flea preventative treatment and worming etc.

Two out of my three boys arrived neutered. One is F5, and likely would have been fertile, but was not breeding quality, the other is the F4 baby in my avatar. My F3 boy Jarvis arrived unaltered.
Personally, I was glad that D and Mickey arrived neutered, and wished Jarvis had too. I was nervous when he had to be neutered, I was a total wreck that day and for the next several days worrying about him.
I fostered a rescue kitten, and when I had her spayed, I was just as much of a nervous wreck as I was when Jarvis was neutered.

It is my personal opinion that pet animals should be altered so as to avoid unwanted kittens. It is my personal opinion that pet cats should be sent home altered unless there is a good reason to avoid altering prior to sending in the breeder's discretion, not the new owners. Again, just my personal opinion.

(Shaking my head) Let me see if I got this right. The purchaser was not pleased that the cat was fixed prior to purchase. They why did they purchase the cat? I presume this was mentioned up front. I do not understand the reason behind being upset. If you don't like it, then don't buy it. Paying indicates acceptance of product.

Nah, it was an email sent to an entire list that I think she meant to send privately- but I had a few breeders reply to me that she's sent the same nastygrams to them. LOL.

The thing is, perhaps there are reasonable and legitimate reasons for preferring a kitten to arrive un-neutered.
(don't y'all jump on me!) As I have rescued kittens from shelters at very young ages-8 weeks-and the shelters neutered them, one set of brothers became part of my life. Lost at 5 yrs and almost 6 years. The vet I had (then,) told me the FUS " MIGHT have something to do with it" He was way ahead of his time, I believe. I will put this link here www.2ndchance.info/spayneuter.html by Dr. Ronald Hines. He is making television and post and media news, as a David against the Goliaths of this world. This is because of going against long-held, sometimes unscientific, views, according to him. From my sad experiences, and in my opinion, I like much of what he says--makes me think he's really on to it.

I'd like to be able to make the best decision in my own kittens' health interest, and long life.

That said, I agree it is the breeders perogative to make their own decisions, and expect the buyer to abide by that, or go elsewhere.

I do agree that it is up to the breeder. I did not spay/neuter my litter because i thought it was too early. I have since decided, based on breeders i know having to chase after people, that i don't want to take any chances. My vet believes in early spay/neuter.

My breeder said I could do my own neuter/spay if I paid $1000 more... guess they figure if you breed you make money, but I certainly preferred not to worry about it!! I was only interested in a family situation! :p

Amen to the rant.

If I were interested in breeding, I would be willing to pay for breeding rights. The people that try to get over on breeders do not deserve to have the cats in the first place.
