That's exactly how I teach them as kittens - I give out a little yelp to let them know they're hurting me. It is usually quite effective since this is how kittens learn from each other as well when they are rough housing too hard.

We play the SAME serval pouncing game under the covers with Zahra, our 9 month old F2. It is far and away her favorite game. It's evolved into stalk, serval pounce, and wrestle with my hand under the covers (She NEVER bites or claws but just mouths and stops inmediately of she feels bare skin).

Really cool to see the same game played with your kitten.

BED MOUSE! I love it! We just call it "pounce" here given Zahra's propensity for leaping the distance of the CA King bed to land on my scratching finger. She NEVER misses.
