Seriously?!?! What the heck?!?! Not that I was seriously considering moving to OH just so I could get a Serval, but, man, that is still aggravating to say the least...

You need to go to the savannah cat legal chat forum we have and read about ohio...they also had banned savannahs but we pulled together and they are now excluded from the bill...

To all potential serval owners...PLEASE do not buy a serval if it is illegal in your state or county or town. PLEASE check all of the town codes as well as county codes. Thank you!!!!

So theoretically speaking, if I owned a serval, in a legal state and was fully aware of their potential behaviors, what suggestions would you give me.

I've always wanted one but seeing how PA is being a bit "moody" ( to be polite) I am not legally allowed to own them:( in our current home we aren't set up, but if starting from the ground up, what would serval owners recommend. Just curiosity because I would love to see if what I have read about thm is correct, I see some people who know nothing about them acquire them, and I hope that basking this question I can provide people with some inside information when it comes to raising these precious babies :)

Anyone have any extra info other than "make sure they are legal"?

I think they are not a pet that are for anyone. Many servals will not eat if their owner is not the one feeding them. Some people can never leave for the lifetime of the cat. I don't know how they are kept indoors but everything has to be pretty much nailed down.
I know some states (KY?) requires them to be declawed because a harmless leap with the back feet can sever an artery.
There is not just state laws but local laws that have varied restrictions and having decent neighbors that won't freak out that you have one.
I know people own them in Califonia. There is one loose cannon I know lives around here.
There are a few breeders that had to sadly relinquish their servals in Ohio as the fines are beyond what it is worth to risk keeping one.

You should probably look for a Serval group if you want more specific answers - I don't think too many people on this forum own Servals :)

Austin, that is because this is a savannah forum, not a serval forum ;) If you want to know something, ask and someone should be able to answer you.
