Well....Loki finally caught one of the red wasps I have been warning him about. He still uses the "if it flies it dies" mentality, but obviously needs to rethink that, lol. My poor boy! We gave 1/2 a 25 mg benedryl per our vet, but his paw is still swollen. Wondering if 12.5mg is enough for 19 lbs of cat. Any advice?

Antihistamines take time to treat the allergic response. Might take a couple of days to get back to normal (This is based upon human experience). Do keep an eye on it for infection.

25mg would be fine to give him (up to 2mg/lb) but chlorpheniramine might be a more effective antihistamine, and is more commonly used in cats.

Is that available OTC?

Yes, it may be labeled Chlor-Trimeton I think when I have seen it and you may have to search for it as it's not as common anymore... ask at your pharmacy... and as Patti says, make sure there's nothing else in it... especially like a cold medication with acetaminophen!

He is moving around a bit more. I think he is going to be ok but his foot and leg are really swollen. I am allergic to wasps, so we have something in common. Before you ask, no my hands aren't tiny!
