The Saga of the Twisty Legged Kitten

Trish, I saw a video from another kitten not too long ago, but I cannot find it here... The vet put a splint on his little paw and left it on there for about 3 weeks, and at about 6 weeks you could never tell it happened and you could never guess which leg it was at 8 weeks..

I wish you the best of luck with him, and sending prayers to the little fellow... And thanks for taking such great care of such a precious little kitty.. If I can find that video, I will post it... Seems like it was on YouTube somewhere.

Awww, he is adorable! I have heard of other kittens getting callouses as well, I think they should resolve if his legs straighten out. Keep us posted - I would love weekly pictures to follow his progress!

Good job with the splinting, Trish. Be sure to change his bandages daily, for if he goes through a growth spurt, the bandages can get too tight and cut off circulation...so this is really important. I have had good success getting kittens legs to straighten, so if you find you need more pointers, feel welcome to get in touch. Keep at it...you will be amazed at how quickly the legs straighten on an infant who is suffering from tendon contracture, like yours is. It does happen, but is NOT going to compromise him in any way once you splint and get his tendons straightened out. Then it is business as usual for this little fellow, who will be good as new! :)

Sorry, guys-- kitten care and summertime kinda consumes my days :)

So here is Forest's update-- HIS LEGS are 100% normal!!!

So last week, his legs were right, but he was knuckling his paws. I was worried about that and did a splint for about 2 days (taking them off at night), but I noticed he was just continuously improving with or without my support.

As of today, he's about 5 weeks old and you can't tell the difference between him and his little mini-me sister, Darling, when they are scampering around (same coloring, same black nose.)

I know I was told by a few breeders-- Cynthia is one of them-- and I read on plenty of sites that this situation will rectify on its own, but I cannot tell you how awesome it is to see the results with your own two eyes. His legs were dreadful at birth and while I was optimistic-- it was hesitantly optimistic, we shall say.

So now I just have to find the right home for Mr. Forest!
