The Saga of the Twisty Legged Kitten

Ya know Trish, We have followed Little Forest since his entry into this world, and I, for one, am so happy he is progressing so nicely. He is a cute little fella. :) I LOVE his sad eyes. ;)
Thank you, Cary-- he surely uses those 'woe is me' eyes to his benefit! My 8 year old desperately wants to keep him and I'd love to-- LOVE to-- but we have two oldies (14 and up) and two younger alters and... Sigh... I want to keep them all, but the special ones that have to overcome odds-- I just love them a little bit more ;)

ACTUALLY- that's why we have a bug eyed F7 alter. ROFLMAO. Saber was born with a huge golfball size hernia and we kept him to get it fixed (obviously) and he is the boys' cat.

(Shhhh-- don't tell the others that!)

Trish, He has one big item in common with Elsa... He over came the odds and did not let it hold him back... that tells me that they are both fighters and will be GREAT cats.... If they were not good fighters, they would either not be here today or be handicapped for the rest of their life... As you said, from day one he kept playing with the other kittens as if nothing was wrong.... If he had been like a lot of people, he would have said "I am handicapped, you got to help me".... and yes, I have had people to tell me that exact phrase.

When the Vet told me Elsa was not going to make it and recommend putting her down and her report read "Poor to Grave" and they recommend putting her down (of which I cannot do) it makes me wonder how many other pets listed as very bad could have made it if their owners had not listened to the vet...
Yes, they are both great fighters! I should have taken video of Forest scooting along and doing his thing-- if we weren't so worried about one of Hattie's little ones (who did not make it :( :( ) I think I would have documented Forest's progress more.

I am so glad you stuck with it with Elsa. To me, it's in their spirit. If they want to fight, I will fight with them. I will go the distance as long as their spirit is willing.

Just like my little F2 - I was sure I was going to lose him the first few weeks, but he has defied all odds and is now thriving!

Sometimes, it's just this hump they have to get through-- and with help, they can do it. I've seen some pretty amazing recoveries so it's why I don't give up hope. With Forest-- though-- it was easier because in my head, I knew whether his legs were normal or not, he would live and be happy. I've been around enough tripods (LOL) to realize amputation isn't that horrible of an option IF it came down to it.

But I'm soooo glad he's totally recovered from his crazy legs!

Trish,

Was just thinking about Little Forest? How about an update on him... Last I heard he was in a new forever home and at that time was getting along well. I guessing he is now 7 to 8 months old. One thing I remember clearly was that fantastic look that he had

His Momma was just gushing about him last night :)

Here's a pic of F2 Monkey-- curled up nicely-- and F5 Maverick dangling like a leopard in their momma's home. Both babies are from me :)

It is so good to see Little Forest (who is not so little anymore) to have such a great home... If he has any memory of his early history he sure does not show it... Which brings up another thought... These cats seem to have a memory that is better than mine sometimes... They are quite smart in so many aspects and can remember so much.. I wonder how much they actually can remember from their child hood history?

I really think cats and dogs (well, animals) do it best-- they live more in the moment and don't think much on history. Of course, history can change them in their formative stages, but if they don't stress about it now-- it's less harmful than the human's way.

I think you have a good point... I know Elsa from her early days, if she remembers any of it, she certainly does not let it affect her day to day life....

I remember one time a long time ago while fixing an airplane a handy capped person hollered out to me while getting on the plane, and I remember his quote today: "Hey Buddy, I'm handy capped, you got to help me.... It's Your Job!".... I stopped what I was doing, walked over him and told him and I quote: "No Sir, It is not my job... My job is to fix the plane that you are trying to board.. If I help you SIRRR, it is out of the goodness of my heart!!!, Have a great day!" and I turned around and walked off.... Don't get me wrong, I will do anything to help someone that cannot get around, but by the same token... Don't tell me that I "GOT" to do it... because I don't.
