I seem to remember something about the pigeon version not being effective or something. You may want to research that further. I wish I could remember where I heard that.
Hi Breanna, my name is Janet Saltzman and I am involved with Bengal Rescue and unfortunately know quite a bit about tritrich. First of all it sounds very much like your cat does have tritrich. The good news is it can be cured and while the cure was a bit scary a few years ago the dose has been cut down and there are usually no adverse reactions. Next I will post a link to Dr. Jody Gookin's website, she is the Vet researcher that found the cure and has done a lot of testing.

The pigeon version is very caustic and since the cat must have 14 doses it is much better to have the medication compounded in capsules. My Vet is seeing enough of tritrich now that he keeps his own stock.
I am very late and trying to read everything. I wanted to let you know Alisha that the test should NOT be run until the cat has been off antibiotics (metronidazole) for 2 weeks and the best method for obtaining a sample is with a colon flush.
The medication is not expensive and can be purchased for an adult for around $30 for the treatment. Kittens are normally more because the medication must be measured accurately for their weight.
Your Vet can order at any compounding pharmacy, we usually use Roadrunner in AZ, they overnight the medication. Also, my Vet has given me permission to give his name and number to any vet wanting information on treating tritrich since he has seen so much of it with our bengals. He is really good about finding it under a microscope too and has saved me a couple PCR tests. Dr. Gookin's site has video of the movement of giardia VS trich and shows how they differ.
I brought in the information from Dr. Gookin's website and one of the techs read it over and did it. She said it was easier than using a loupe. My Vet and his staff are very open to trying new things, I just need to bring them proof from a reliable source.
