What is Your Savannah Cat's Name and Why

I wanted African names to reflect their serval heritage and poured over baby name lists until my eyes crossed.

Avalon Savannah's Juba Kai -- "Juba" is the name of a small African river I found on a list of geographical names. Kai means handsome/beautiful.

Clown Prince Taji of Lequoia -- Taji means a lot of things depending on geographical location of the particular tribe and the meaning on the list I used was "golden" but alas, he turned out to be brown. He does, however, live up to the clown part very well.

Feyd Panzi Maliik of Jua Ini -- Translates roughly to "silver grasshopper king" so named because of his color and his ability to leap tall buildings in a single bound.

All 3 of them are most frequently called "bad kitty."

Diablo (aka Diablo-kitty) was named upon arrival. The breeder called him Royal, which didn't quite work for us. When he arrived, he was a jet black kitten, with jet lag, and the brightest orange eyes. We were upstairs in our master bathroom, cutting him out of his crate and trying to get him settled (he doesn't just meow when he isn't thrilled, he yowls, and it had been a stressful day for him), and we were tossing names back and forth. The bottle of wine we were drinking was Castel Del Diablo, and after he reduced the feather stick to components in less than 5 minutes, he became Diablo, D for short, Diablo-kitty when he is being super adorable.

Jarvis took longer to name, we called him kitten for about 3 days. Jarvis' name at the breeder was Barry, and when he arrived, he was this tiny, scared little ball of fluff. Jarvis was supposed to be a playmate for Diablo as his energy needed re-direction. We loved the idea of having God and the Devil under the same roof, and I thought he would make a great Mars or Apollo, but Mike disagreed, so we settled on Jarvis, after St. Jarvis, doing God's work and keeping Diablo in his place (ie not waking us up in the middle of the night to play). Like Diablo, Jarvis is also named after a bottle of wine- our favorite bottle of chardonnay.

Mickey is the only cat whose name was picked out before he arrived in our house. Mickey's name at his breeder's was Laos. We love disney, so we considered Mickey the Mouser, but we were afraid that would prove prophetic, so we amended it to Mickey Blue Eyes.

This is my Maliaka, her name means "Angel" or "Messenger of heaven" I call my fiancé Angel, so when we saw it, Oh Yea! That's it! Our boy was just born this morn, we are naming him "Zumani" sounds like,( Zumahni) looked up African names, liked Bomani, meaning "Warrior" but wanted a little more exotic sound for such an exotic looking cat, so we just made up the name. Googled meaning, no such name we found yet, so hopefully first and unique. Once he comes home and we get to know his personality, we will place a meaning.

I like to combine the parents' names and come up with something unique when possible: Simboya (Simsim and Oya); Mokhali (Malaki and Moka); Khalil (Mokhali and Lily). Of course, all of our cats have at least one nickname...New Boy (Simboya), Leggy, Weggy (Paris), Tinker (Khalil), Willy, Wills (Lily), Tartsy (Tart), Eevers (Eve), Winker (Gigi), Stellie (Stella) :)
Love this idea!

An aspiration and fascination of mine since childhood was around Egyptology and how the early dynasties took immigrants from all over Africa and ME from climate change and formed one of the first great civilizations.

There's no money in archaeology (IMO), but studying the past and history is something that has great appeal to me since childhood along with computers and technology (my field).

Therefore, my cats are all named after gods in the Egyptian pantheon and deserving of worship.

Ra - The Sun God, ruler of the day. The most important of the Egyptian gods. His name is fitting, as an EM/DSH hybrid he has golden eyes with a slight hue of green, glittered fur, orange spots, bright pink paws, nose, ears. Extremely athletic, there is no height he's unable to reach and uses this to escape the playfulness of his brother. He is aloof, predictable, and prefers the worship of humans over the company of other cats.

Anubis - Lord of the Underworld and watcher over the dead. He is what you would expect from an EM/DSH hybrid being green eyed, extremely ticked tri-color coat, black spotted, rib bars, black pawed, inquisitive, loyal, athletic and confident.

Isis - The Throne Goddess, the symbol of the pharaoh, protector and helper of others. As the only female and SV in the household, she is both symbolic and royalty. She helps Anubis as an outlet for his energy and vice versa. She is symbolic for the household as she will be the only female. Depending on how her personality evolves as she gets into adulthood, she may also take position as Queen (hierarchy, she's spayed).

Mephisto - The future name of a melanistic F1 or F2 male. The devil that Faust sold his soul to. The eldest of the prime evils from the Diablo gaming universe. Representative of how chaotic, unbending, and mischievous he may be. No, that's not right. SHOULD be. He should be a handful and representative of his name. He has to tolerate people and like other cats. I'd love it if he were to be a big boy, but it's all about the personality and mannerisms at this gen.
Slight hijack... My German Shepard Dog who passed away 2 years ago was Isis. I still tear up when I think about her. She was the smartest dog on the planet, I swear she was a human in a doggie suit. The babies could sit on her, pull her tail, stick their hands down her throat, it was fine, but be a stranger and get too close the kids? You were going to regret it quickly. She lived up to her name and then some. There will never be another like her. Ok, and now back to our regular programming!

Well, there is a story behind all of them.

Loki - God of Mischief
If their is mischief or mayhem going on he is involved, guaranteed. Whether he is in the toilet or the kitchen sink, he is always in the water.

Stoney - Came to us as a rescue and had an eye infection, so he was squinting all the time. Then we found out he is a catnip freak. Most of the time he is really laid back and acts like a typical stoner, so Stoney is just perfect for him.

Tooter - unprecedented ability to blow Gass EVERY time he is picked up. Once pooped in my wife's lap on a road trip, so we know we choose his name well. He is our 23.5lb DSH, beautiful chocolate color with white skin. If he could talk it would sound like James Earl Jones I swear!
