what to feed SV kitten with diarrhea

Wow I'm sorry your going through this. What works we for me is to boil chicken, I usually buy a pack of thighs. Once cooked, Debone and put in blender with some of the hot brothy water. Once done add some slippery elm powder (while the blender product is still wet). Slippery elm helps sooth the digestive tract. Give multiple small meals a day. You can't feed this forever, but kibble is highly processed and hard to Digest. It can upset the tummy. You can sprinkle the forti flora on the blend. Feed this for a few days to a week. Also with that much going on, even with the infection gone, the GI tract is damaged and will take awhile to repair itself. You might go on with symptoms. I know vets love tylan and want you to use it till symptoms disappear, but the long term use of antibiotics kill good bacteria in gut and can cause more damage. Once the little guys tests come back neg. for everything, try a diet formulated to heal the stomach, IMO raw or home cooked is best. Stuff at vets is crap, it's corn or grain based and not good.

Thanks Angie - excellent post!

Welcome to the group. I'm so sorry you're going though this. I myself have a 6 month old SV I'm having issues with diarreha. Currently my vet has him on a sensitive stomach dry food only to see if that helps. He wants to rule out food issues before the PCR test. So far there is just a small improvement. I hope the suggestions provided helps with yours. There is a lot of great information and experience on this site.

Hi Angie, This is some great information. I am new to the SV world as well. Question, I have a 6 month old SV with diarrhea issues as well. I posted a about a week ago. My vet has him on dry sensitive stomach food to see if that helps before doing a PCR test. So far just a small change. Can I give him raw chicken or would the boiled be better?

I tried boiled chicken thighs last night. Deboned them but left the skin on. Havi turned her nose up at it and went for the kibbles instead.
Should I have removed the skin?

Maybe, skin is fat and excess fat can cause upset stomach, it's really hard to say cause maybe it just isn't appealing to him. Did you put broth in it and put in blender? If chunks a lot if cats don't like but like shredded better. Maybe even make it like a soup. I also find Savannahs to be picky eaters. So maybe he just doesn't like cooked chicken. Or prefers a different temp. Sometimes you have to play with the recipes to
See what works.

I chopped it up in the VitaMix. It was very soupy and barely warm but not hot when I gave it to her.

Skip the vitamix and use straight meat- no skin. This isn't a permanent diet so you don't need to add vitamins, etc, at this point. I would probably add probiotics myself, but you can get tasteless ones at the pharmacy and just sprinkle it on the meat.

My Savannahs are not picky about meat- never have been- everyone loves chicken, raw or boiled, here.

The VitaMix is a high-powered blender not vitamins. I did add contents of one capsule of slippery elm bark to the whole mix and one packet of forti flora to her serving. Going to try feeding her before I give meds tonight. Maybe that will help her tummy.

Thanks.
