What's for dinner?

Is it just due to the type of kitchen they are installing or the age of your house or is this, dare I say it, normal to take this long to renovate a kitchen? Maybe I'll just buy a new house- hahahah- with my millions of dollars (said sarcastically). I can't live in a hotel that long!

It's a combination of things... we aren't doing a typical just rip out the cabinets and put new ones in type of renovation. We took everything out and then the wall between kitchen and dining room (which involved a brick chimney from basement garage up to the roof another two floors up.

And the cabinets aren't basic ones...JN figured if we were doing it, we'd do it well. They were hyper-designed by the kitchen designer, then custom-made and the door material JN loved came from Italy and had to be imported (it's really cool stuff but still that meant a further delay).

Then this week when they came to instal those fancy cabinets, they discovered that they'd neglected one thing, because this is an old Victorian, they move and settle and one side of the kitchen is TWO INCHES lower than the other and they had not calculated for this! And then this was discovered when they'd put in half the lower cabinets and they weren't aligning on the perpendicular walls...so all had to come out and modifications made. Probably a good thing at that point that it was custom cabinets and more artisan type people as they are obsessed with making it "right" so no shortcuts. Means more time but it will look better than if we'd gone with a cheaper option.

Add to that the plumbing and wiring was super-old and needed to be completely replaced...

I think renovations always take longer, but ours has had "special" challenges to the progress :)

It's starting to look like a kitchen again though! The cabinets are really lovely!

Tonight it's salmon cakes (if I can successfully defend the fish from the cats), roasted zucchini, and quinoa with garlic and mushrooms.
