As a rule yes; silvers do have a black tail tip. Unless they are one of the dilute shades (blue, chocolate, cinnamon, lavendar) and silver, then the tail tip will not be black, but a darker shade of the basic coat color. It is what is used to determine whether a cat is indeed a true silver or a dilute silver.

The important thing to note is that not ALL Savannahs are "good" examples of the breed. We have a new and developing breed, and many outcross breeds were used...and sometimes traits are inherited from those outcross breeds and not the Serval! Depending on how selective a breeding program is, then you definitely can see some lower generation Savannahs that could be mistaken for other breeds. In a perfect world, those kittens would be labeled "pet quality" and the ones that look more like our breed standard would be labeled "show" or "breeder quality"... but it depends on how critical the breeder is of their own cats, as Kelly mentioned earlier.

It's also important to note that even if your cat resembles another breed more than the Savannah, it does not mean he is not beautiful! My very first Savannah is an F2 but both outcrosses were Bengal so he really is 75% Bengal and looks it. He's not a "good" Savannah but he is a very handsome boy!
