Yuki is having a rough week

The other tests came back clean.

The only indication of something unusual is an elevated white blood cell count. That could be infection, inflamation, cancer, not knowable yet. Inflamation of tissues from the injury is most likely.

I'm sorry to hear about Yuki's injury, hopefully it is just a sprain and will heal quickly. As for the weight loss - does she look underweight or just trimmer? I have a retired girl here who gained a tremendous amount of weight after she was spayed, and I've only just noticed that in the past few months she's really trimmed down to a more normal sized cat - she did this on her own, but appears otherwise completely healthy.

Patti,
When Yuki arrived here along with Yeti she weighed in at 7lbs. 12 oz. and during their 2 month quarantine she ate the same things as Yeti (lots of kitten food, some raw, and some kibble). She had also been spayed right before the trip. She was a scrawny thing, but otherwise healthy, and gained weight fast.

Yuki peaked at 10lbs. 2oz. and then started getting very picky with food. She is also a grazer. I had switched feedings to just before leaving for work in the morning and just after arriving home and that did not work well for her. I recently switched back to leaving kibble down and she seems happy about it.

On the recent vet visits her weight was back down to 7lbs. 12oz. The second visit a day later showed immediate gain of 1oz.

So I think that unless she has cancer, she will pick the weight back up. Now I just have to figure out how to get Paz back to losing weight. He had peaked at 16lbs. and had gotten down to 15lbs. using the scheduled feedings. Yeti meanwhile is still gaining weight regardless of the feeding schedule and is probably about 13lbs.

Yuki is still being careful with her left front leg, but she is willing to cuddle again somewhat and moving about better. She wants to get back to riding my shoulders, but is not ready to commit to jumping up even from a few inches away from level. She appears otherwise healthy, but I still get creeped out a bit by being able to feel her vertebra.

The first picture sitting, she is close to peak weight, the second standing, is shortly after arrival.

Could it be also a seasonal thing? Many animals put on weight during winter and lose during summer... so wondering as the weather cools she might feel more hungry?

In terms of leaving the kibble out for her and not the others, I remember seeing that collar tag that would open the food bowl for the cat wearing the tag but not for the doggy without it... can't remember the name of it though :-( Something like that might help though...

3 lbs does seem a lot to lose, but if her eating habits have changed then I guess it possibly is due to the lack of opportunity to snack.

Well I hope she gains her weight back again, she definitely looks healthier at the heavier weight. I think it must be rather hard to try to get one cat to gain weight while trying to get the other to lose weight!

Update: Yuki is starting to get around a bit better, though she is still taking stairs downward one at a time, she goes up just fine. still hesitant about some jumps, but making short ones without a problem. She is also gaining weight. Will update again when there is more to tell.
