Ziggy had anisocoria (unequal pupil dilation)

Glad to hear Ziggy seems to have forgiven you for the unexpected vet visits. I hope he recovers completely and you never see this odd symptom again....thanks for sharing this learning experience.

Ziggy's eyes seem fine today. Even in full sunlight they seem equally (un-)dilated. I'll talk to my vet tomorrow to see if any follow up is needed.

So just an interesting observation - several weeks ago one of my cats got incredibly sick - she crawled on top of a six foot high crawl space and I was sure she was going to die. She is one of those irascible, feisty F2s that can't be touched when she's not feeling well so I just prayed and hoped for the best. When I was finally able to get close to her I realized that she had a wound on the left side of her neck which looked pretty nasty. She laid up there for several days... I put food and water which she didn't touch at first, but finally started to perk up and miraculously had a complete recovery.

Emma is back to being a cantankerous, feisty lap kitty (chases other cats away when she wants to be on my lap) but I've noticed that she now has anisocoria, with the left pupil being smaller than the right. Neurologically she otherwise seems completely intact. She is not one that I can pack up and take to the vet (she was much worse when I got her as an adult - just not good with strangers or strange situations) so I am just keeping an eye on her. It is now several weeks later and the pupils remain unequal in size, yet if I wasn't aware of it I'd say she is exactly the same as before she became ill. Makes me wonder if the neck wound cause a transient lack of blood flow to the brain which only effected the cranial nerve controlling pupilary response... guess I'll never know for sure.

And how she got the neck wound is an entirely different story - to be honest I don't know, but I don't think any of the cats did it. I almost wonder if she somehow stuck her head through the bars of the outdoor enclosure and got stuck until she was finally able to force her way out again. Needless to say, I am currently not using that enclosure at this time until I am convinced it is safe...

Oh that sounds awful, Patti, and especially hard to know that you had to just let her heal in her own time... glad Emma is feeling better!

It was really scary Brigitte - she was so cachetic I couldn't imagine that she would ever pull out of it. The fact that she survived with only a minor eye problem is nothing short of a miracle in my book!

So glad to hear all the kitties are okay! We had an eye issue with Biz - it was swollen, 2nd lid half down, unequally dialated eyes and he had just a wee bit of discharge coming from it - a wee bit. He's too wiggly to really great look but the vet said it was either a scratch or an infection. He didn't act any different - didn't seem sick at all - we were given eye drops and after a few days the swelling reduced and all was fine. Not really sure what it was. I assumed upper respirartory infection as Jengo had had a cold for a few days but he was able to kick it without a vet visit. Jengo exhibited nothing in his eye - his symptoms were sneezing, a bit of a runny nose and lethargy. He was still eating and drinking, I made him play - he had a bit of a fever. Anyway Biz never had any cold symptoms just the eye thing...makes me wonder.
