This may be a personal preference but certainly not a necessity. F1s on down have been successfully fed canned and dry food without any health problems.

Glad your girl is feeling better! I don't know whether it's because he has been fed raw from the beginning, but my boy hasn't been sick yet, and has the most perfect 
! I'd love to try canned in case there were to be an emergency, and another family member had to feed him, but since he's doing so well, I've never really bothered.

I fed Zeddie canned for a bit...but it made her
stink
. On raw it is completely odourless, which is beautiful as her litterbox is in my bedroom. It is harder to travel with raw though

I just get 10 pound bags of drum sticks and thighs from my local grocery store. I also pick up a pkg. of hearts and gizzards when available. We feed him beef tips every now and then, and found a couple who sells whole, dressed, skinned rabbits, which we pick up on occasion. We grind the chicken and the rabbit, but I just cut the beef tips into smaller, bite size pieces. For a special treat, we buy a small bag of shrimp, dice one, and sprinkle it over his ground chicken. We add Taurine to the chicken, and a little bone meal to the beef.

I feed Next Generation Tollden Farms. It comes nicely packaged in patties and is a complete diet
Kristin, I just looked at the Tollden Farms website - since there is no mention of cats I would be concerned that there is no taurine in these products. Plus, apparently they don't add supplements to some of their products so you might want to review the ingredients and see if you need to add anything - I don't see anywhere on the website where the actual ingredients are listed.

I started mine on nature's instinct raw rabbit. They weren't fond of it. Switched to Primal freeze dried raw turkey formula. They like it and its very easy to use for a newbie raw feeder like myself. Our kittens are 8 mos old and I have been transitioning them slowley for about a month

I talked to the people at the raw food store, and they said there is no taurine added because it is in the organs. They don't say specifically cat or dog, however they have a "vegetable blend" and a "botanical blend". The vegetable blend is 80% protein I believe with 20% fruits/vegetables. The botanical blend is 99% protein with 1% seeds as a bit of fibre to push the meat through the system.
I have looked at other brands as well in raw food stores, and taurine is never listed as an ingredient. Tollden Farms is one of the only brands I can find that doesn't add fruits and vegetables into their cat food.
