Advice needed about ringworm....

This is a home used remedy used by people on people with no success. All you'd get is contaminated nail polish. I heartily agree with Paige, seek a new vet.

As a pharmacist, I would recommend clotrimazole 1% (Lotrimin AF) cream over Tinactin. Tinactin has been around quite a while and some resistance may have developed over time.
Malaseb would also be excellent as it contains miconazole and chlorhexidine.
Ringworn is a tinea infection which is hammered by the "conazole" class of antifungals.

Thank you, Paige. I actually went to a Veterinarian's office closer to my home and she was VERY nice. She GAVE me a small bottle of Malaseb to bathe Jinx with. I ordered the foggers and should receive them day after tomorrow. I'm so glad I had the advice of everyone who responded to me to be knowledgeable enough to question the advice I was given...otherwise, I could have really hurt Jinx with the nail polish or gotten into the situation of exposing all of the animals thereby making the situation a hundred times worse than it needed to be. Many, many, many thanks everyone!!!!

Rascal Dad....thank you for your advice. I will go and but the Lotrimin AF today. Your knowledge and advice is greatly appreciated. To be honest, I was concerned about putting the ointment the vet gave me on Jinx 6-7 times daily in addition to dusting him with the Tinactin twice daily. I stopped after 2 days when Jinx seemed a little "off" because I was afraid I was poisoning him. He's doing better after I started only applying it twice daily and dusting him every third day. I'm just so scared now because of all the things I've done wrong so far following the vets instructions and feel incredibly horrible I did all of this to Jinx.

Through this I have learned that you don't EVER just go pick up an animal for a pet because you want one. You'd better do your research and learn about the differences between a dog and cat, for example, and know how to properly care for each. Just because you've given a needy kitten a home other than living in a shelter does not necessarily make your home more suitable for that animal. Our lack of knowledge could have really hurt Jinx, I cannot express how thankful I am that I found you all.

What was the ointment? Any thing that would be approved for veterinary use should be low risk for toxicity.

Rascal Dad, it is miconazole 2% prescribed to be applied 6 times daily on each spot and we were told to purchase Tinactin powder to be applied twice daily covering his whole body.

That was all we were told. I was asking about the dip because I read about it online and it supposedly "knocks it right out" but I didn't want to dip Jinx unless instructed otherwise because of his age and our lack of knowledge when it comes to kittens.

I think little Jinx has landed on his four little paws finding you for a mum. Good luck and I hope it clears up soon so you can just get on with enjoying your lovely little kitten :)

Thank you, Evie! I hope you're right. I love him so much and I will do everything I can to make it better for him! He is so precious....when we first adopted him from the humane society, he had a bad limp. Apparently his leg had been broken and never looked at so it healed wrong. You can see from his pic that he had surgery to correct it and was doing great until the ringworm. Still, he is a little fighter and nothing seems to slow him down! He is the absolute greatest. (Of course, I'm not at all partial! LOL)
