Akila not gaining weight

Is there any other way to get in touch with the FIP support group. I am not on Facebook

Sorry to hear Akila's diagnoses, stay strong.
I did alot of research on F.I.P when my late rescue Kitty Cat got sick. Just cause cats test positive doesnt mean the end, they can live a normal life its hit and miss. A lot of cats test positive and live their whole lives without issues.
It's like cancer with humans we all have it, something just activates it.
Stay strong my thoughts are with you and Akila.

Corona virus numbers 'off the charts' is NOT equivalent to a diagnosis of FIP. I have had a cat with a FeCOV level in the 10,000s and did NOT have FIP and is still alive and well today years later. Stress can commonly cause the corona virus to proliferate and given Akila's frequent trips to the vet and undergoing multiple tests it is not surprising that her levels are high.

I am not saying that it is not FIP but please do not make any rash decisions based on a FeCOV level. Here is an algorithm that can be used to better diagnose FIP: http://www.catvirus.com/downloads/FIPdiagnosisalgorithm.pdf

I completely agree with Patti!!
Having Corona Virus does NOT mean they have FIP. Even with high titer values!!

The vet even told me that without the biopsies or fluid from the abdomen there is not definitive test, and since there is no cure I would not have Akia under go the tests. I did have Akila at the vet a lot but given the fact that she has not gained an ounce of weight since the end of July, as a responsible pet owner I felt I had no choice but to find out why. In moving forward I will continue to love her and take care of her and give her the best life she can have!!!!

I totally understand you not wanting to put Akila through a bunch of tests if there is nothing that can be done and no way to be absolutely sure if she has the dry version of FIP. But if she doesn’t have FIP and has something else with similar symptoms that is treatable, you really want to know that!

I don’t know anyway to access the private FIP Fighters Facebook group without joining Facebook, but joining Facebook is easy. Not sure why you feel this is a barrier, but if you join you can set up your privacy setting so you do not come up in any search, and it is up to you what if anything you share and how public this is.

I checked the non Facebook links in the link Dumalove posted and non of the yahoo links worked for me... So I am not sure that is an option. But in the FIP Fighters group there is a lot of people posting bloodwork, a lot of very well informed discussion of what it means, and what markers and symptoms do and do not suggest FIP, and most importantly, what other tests to get to make sure there is nothing else possible that is not FIP, that may be cureable. And if it is FIP, from what I read, stuff like prednisone often helps alleviate some of the symptoms for a while.

There was a kitten named Luna that was diagnosed with FIP last year and went thru a clinical trial thru UC Davis. She posted the journey on the FB version of this site. Over a year later, Luna is still with us and doing great. Not sure how to access the info to pass it on to you .......

I should add that when Luna was diagnosed she looked half dead. She had the wet version and her belly was distended and her energy was dismal.
