Akila not gaining weight

How odd, I've never noticed that reaction to Panacur before (and I've given a LOT of Panacur in my day!)

hmm - i would nearly more assume that Akila now getting better and can resorb the food better - so the oily furr is in my opinion a sign that she is getting healthier ... for sure - the panacur treatment makes this happen but i don't think it is a side effect of the treatment more that the first time her body gets more energy by food - and is resulting in furr change to shine from eventually too dry before ...
So don't worry

Well here I am again....took Akila to the vet today, she had to have a blood test. The vet weighed her and she has not gained any weight! Not even an ounce!!! I am beyond concerned and frustrated. She has weighed 3.8 ounces since the beginning of August. Her breeder says her brother is about the same weight and it could be a vitamin thing. She is going to send me info on some vitamins.
Am I worrying about nothing? I have NEVER experienced this in a cat before.

I would be worried to, it is not normal for a kitten not to gain weight. Are you feeding her kitten formula food? You might also try to give her a high caloric supplement like nutrical or crisis care paste.

I am feeding her pro plan canned kitten food and I just added in some Ziwi peak beef. I know Ziwi peak is not a kitten food but that is the only way I can get her to eat more food. She still will not eat kibble and I have tried just about every kitten kibble that is made!!! I have tried some high calorie milk supplement that I got from the vet and it just made her throw up for 12 hours.
I have tried Nutrical but she won’t eat it.
I just feel like I am missing something and I don’t know what it is.
I have had blood work done, teeth checked, spay done, ear infection cleared up, waiting on the Giardia recheck ( I should those results tomorrow). This poor thing has been to the vet so much that I feel sorry for her!!!

Well I guess the next step (depending on how far you are willing to go) is to check endocrine and hormone levels.

I am willing to do what ever it takes to get my little girl healthy!!! What would they be looking for with those tests Patti? And why isn’t her vet suggesting these tests?

Any thyroid or diabetes abnormality, or any hormonal imbalance. I don't even know if they would be appropriate tests in a kitten, but it would be part of a work up on a human.

I'd ask your vet to test for congenital hypothyroidism. She's probably always going to be small, even with treatment, if that's the issue.

I talked to the vet today and asked if they checked for vitamin deficiencies..... with all the blood tests they have given her, and they said they were all within the normal range.

I did purchase a daily vitamin for her today from the vet and I am taking her back to Illinois to be seen by my vet there. I had copies of her records transferred and ask my vet back home to go over them and see if we are missing anything.

How do they test for congenital hypothyroidism? If she has that do you know how it is treated?
I don’t mind her being small, because she is really stinking cute I just want her to thrive!!!
