Hm, he never mentioned Bengal. Although, the more I look at them, the more I’m getting to the the thoughts of their Bengalish ancestry. I’m not into breeding or anything, but I didn’t imagine there could be such complications. I simply did expect that if such an amount is paid, everything should be ok, you know, this is the way I’d do.
Btw, he has sent me the copy of contract, and honestly, I’m totally discouraged as it looks to me like you’re getting the kitten and everything is your responsibility and you have 72 hours to find out if there is anything wrong with little chap.
Don’t know is it standard form of a cat sale contract or....
In every walk of life, there are people who do business as we personally might and then there are those that scam and mislead and do anything simply to get a purchase without caring further. Breeders are no different. There are good honest breeders who are focused on health, temperament and type and there are breeders looking to sell kittens to make a buck. The latter tend to sell kittens early and play up the spots and size and "wild" and don't tend to vet homes too carefully and just want the check to be sent asap. They may tend to use more Bengally type cats because those might look flashier as kittens and as the buyers they want only are looking for dramatic spots and buy early, they aren't too concerned how Servally the kittens grow up to look as that isn't their concern.
Basically, anything you are going to spend thousands on... you look into all the details. It's not about being "into breeding or anything", it's about being careful throwing money at someone. Don't assume because you pay thousands that this must be legitimate. For any item you purchase for thousands you should be wary and do diligent research before outlaying that money.
Yes, the standard sales contract really doesn't guarantee much, and it is good that you can see that. This protects the breeder in many cases, but it is why you need to ascertain beforehand that the parents have been tested for at least PRA and PKDeficiency (two genetic conditions that we have found in our breed that are easily tested by the breeder by taking a mouth swab of their cats and sending to a lab), I also prefer breeders that do heart disease screening of their cats but many do not do this.
At the end of the day, this is a major purchase, especially an F2 versus an F6 for example. Err on the cynical side when evaluating the breeder you are handing that money to.
