Bi Lateral Heart Murmur... :(

Well, I just got home. After letting a few tears fall on the drive home, it seems to me that it is not meant to be this time (again). No one has any positive news about this. I could only hope the best that his condition is not a huge deal and that he would eventually get over it. But as everyone has said, and I agree, he should definitely be checked out BEFORE even being shipped, but I don't have the money to give the breeder to do that and she is not willing to have him checked out further. So, I guess I am going to have to let him go. :( The breeder is willing to give me a full refund, so that is good. It was even worse that I came home to a pile of boxes at my door, all of which were supposed to be for him. I can't even begin to say how I am feeling right now. I look at his picture on my avitar and it brings tears to my eyes again. :( I feel like I'm already attached and I have never met him... Just knowing that he is going to live his life with this condition and unless someone else is willing to buy him and have him checked out, nothing is even going to be done for him. I wish I had a large amount of money just to be able to get him, have him checked out and fixed if possible, but that is not the case.

Paul I wish things had turned out better. I am happy you do get a full refund at least. You are being guided by your head instead of your heart, and that is the smart thing to do although difficult. I have to say I would have made the same choice in your situation.

The right one is out there. Good things come to those who wait. We have a lot of great breeders on here I am sure perhaps one of their babies will be "the one" for you?

Yes, I agree Alisha. I'm sure the right one is out there. Thank you all so much for all your comments, kind words and help today. I really appreciate it a lot. I will be getting in touch with Dawn as soon as I can talk on the phone without being so damn emotional.

Thank you Paige. I am glad to be a part of this forum (community), and that all of you are so supportive and kind. I'm sure I will find the right one that is supposed to join our family of 2. :) If anyone hears/knows of a nice male Savvy kitten looking for a home, please let me know, as I will be looking again when I get the check in the mail.

Paul, I'm just reading through this thread and I have to agree with everyone's assessment of the situation. A murmur is what the vet hears when the blood flows turbulently through a heart valve. It cannot tell you why the blood is turbulent or if the cause is serious or benign. Without having further workup, specifically an ultrasound of the heart, you will never know. A grade II heart murmur is not bad, but at nine months of age you don't know if it's gotten better with time, or worse with time. If you are unable to afford it, and Dawn is unable to pursue a workup, it is probably best that you look for another kitten. Just FYI, if you have ever considered getting an adult you can usually find a retired breeder for a very reasonable price - sometimes just for the cost of alter and shipping.

Thanks Patti. Yes, I'm sure I made the right decision. We could not live with always worrying if something was going to happen to him at an early age. As for the retired breeders, we are fairly set on having a kitten join our family and being with us for a long time. Thank you for the suggestion though.

I just talked to a local vet over the phone. He said that Dawn should get a radiology consult done on him to make sure it is a heart murmur. He said that if it is a heart murmur, he would recommend not getting him as in the future there WILL be expensive vet bills on top of what we are already paying. :( This is such awful news for me right now! I can't stand to be let down once again.

I am sorry to hear that, Paul. I know you were so excited. A heart murmer at 9 months isn't something they are going to outgrow- taurine won't fix that. I don't know what the stages are but if you really want him, then a cardiologist consult would be in order. If the the consult is somewhat good, then you may want to ask Dawn for a reduced price on him in the event that there is trouble. A cat with an issue is not a death sentence although his life may not be as long as a healthy cat. I had a juvenile diabetic border collie from 6 month and I wouldn't trade the short 6 years that I had with him for a healthy dog. He was my favorite dog, he was funny and had a tireless determination to please, and I always thought that if I had to do it all over again, I would have done it all over again. I used to trial him in all the Northern California sheep dog trials and Fair trials. So you just never know?
