We had a melanistic Savannah named "
Boo" until last July. Really hurt to lose her, and we also lost our 15 year Sheltie the month before. We had chosen a local breeder (
http://www.tejascats.com/), and he said I have the kitty just for you. When we arrived, he placed a 4 week old black kitty in my daughter hands. It was a done deal as that was the kitty we were getting, as my daughter would consider no others.
So in November we considered getting another, and went to Lori Greer's site (
http://cahabacats.com/Available.htm) and found a kitten I was interested in which was a light golden female that was born in February, and also she also happended to have a new arrival of a snow savannah. My wife fell in love with the snow kitty looks, and I agreed to by it for her & my daughter.
Be that as it may, the golden female price was to good to refuse, so I worked with Lori and agreed on a price for the two kitties, all without my wife knowing about the second kitty.
Plans were to get the kitty shipped before Christmas and December 18, but Mother Nature was being a bit of a "
b_tch" and that was not going to happen.
So a two days before Christmas, I purchased two designer like pet carriers at Ross, and had my wife and daughter sit down, close their eyes. I then placed the carriers in front of them, with pictures of both kitties. So then I said "OPEN!!!!" And they opened their eyes and said this is cool looking at the carrier in front of them, and then they looked at the other carrier and said "Wait a minute, what's going on???" I said look at the pictures. They were shocked and excited.
Both were excited, and once New Years was over they drove up from Austin to Nashville to get them directly. My daughter has now confirmed she "
Hates Roadtrips!" I said maybe she will make sure she lives closer to us when she is on her own.
They got both kitties, and everyone is home, safe and happy. We had been playing with names like Summer and Winter, and other variations like Snow and Jingle, but when my wife saw the Savannah, it was "
Cayenne" without any question. Regal like the Porshe SUV and Spicy like the pepper. Still working on the SNow's name, although my daughter is leaning towards
Sierra.
Even though we are prior owners of a beautiful Savannah, I made a rookie mistake when trying to transfer the older kitty from one room to another without using the cat carrier, or long sleeves, and I now have new Savannah scars to go with the old ones.
My wife loves
Cayenne because she exudes everything we wanted in a Savannah, the look, the attitude, etc. Because
Cayenne is older, she is sort of shy, and independent. Any suggestions for "bonding" assistance is welcomed. She is already larger than "
Boo" ever got.
Thank you
David
Savannah's are like Tater-Tots... can't have just one.
