Breeders are not required anywhere that I know of to perform fecal testing...I have never had any type of stool issue in any of my cats and they are tested, so I do not feel the need to do fecal testing on my kittens, although I do deworm them...

The main thing is to buy your kitten from a reputable breeder...and issues do arise in every cattery - it is how the breeder deals with the issues, that is important...
How does one determine they are dealing with a reputable breeder ? If this is my first time?

Ask for references from the breeder's previous customers. There is a breeder directory on this forum: http://www.savannahcatchat.com/forums/savannah-cat-breeders/ as well as a thread with testimonials for breeders: http://www.savannahcatchat.com/pages/savannah-breeder-testimonials/

Also, you can always ask about a breeder here - be sure to give people the option to respond to you privately because if the breeder has a less than stellar reputation people are not inclined to post it publicly, but may be willing to email or PM you privately to give you their opinion.

You can definitely look at savannahcat.com but I would still advise you to get references and/or check here for references.

I thought I had done sufficent investigating. This is what I know and feel in my heart....... Selling such an extremely sick kitty(no doubt here breeder didn't know kitty was passing blood in stool)and regardless of how it is stated or not stated in a written contract "healthy"......... He is the one who must live with himself and look himself in the mirror everyday. I'm sure I'm not the first nor the last to have been put in this situation. Not allowing myself to stoop to a level I don't visit I will just say this " BEWARE OF PURCHASING SAVANNAH'S FROM PENNSYLVANIA ".
My kitty is almost all well, moving forward. 2nd CPR test indicates 2 parasites killed...2 parasites still active & one virus still active. Will address this on returning home.
We waited for years planning on the day we would open our hearts and home to a baby girl savannah. We wanted to wait until we had traveling out of our system to be fair to having a new baby. I did my research by reading books about Savannah's, watching uTube videos and learning about cats in general. Since this is my first cat. Took the information I gathered and designed a cat walk/ penthouse upper story level months before we had a breeder or even a lead of where we would find our little girl. Learning from what I read that cats NEED THEIR OWN SPACE. And they need to know its their own! Cats desire a method to get away from it all when THEY MAKE THE DECISION it's time for them to retreat. So presto it became a reality.
Our angel arrived despite her current health condition she was sweet and timid. Now after 6 months of vet visits, RX compounds & multiple temp. takings she is 75% better and on our way to 100% !
She is now a loving, frisky, curious, funny, acrobat marvel. SHE LOVES HER UPPER LEVEL! And at times struts to show off!
Everything else is water under the bridge...... We wouldn't trade her for anything! We have the gift of loving her for always and forever! She brightens everyday for us! The end

But...not all breeders from PA are like this...so I don't think it is fair to generalize like that...you can PM me privately...

It wasn't fair to refer to all breeders in PA. I apologize because I don't know other or all breeders in PA. So rightfully can't put all apples in one barrel just because one is rotten! Lo siento

It's hard not to want to lash out or find a way to fix things when you're worried about your own baby. We don't do fecals unless concerned. And we worry easily here ;)

I'm not angry and don't feel the need to lash out, just wanting to share my experience and if I can prevent someone from having the same distasteful experience and financial drain then so be it! Won't mention it again .....it's over....I'm done. I LOVE MY BABY GIRL!
