De-wormer of choice

My boyfriend hasn't been able to take Rasputin to the vet. I took it upon myself to make an appointment at a VIP care clinic locally (no exam fee) for next week. Thing is I just recieved the wormer today. And will begin tonight when I get home from work. Should I treat for worms and post pone the appointment? I would like to have a stool sample done at that time. I also heard boiling water also works. Should I do both with the litterboxes? And how soon after administering wormer should I begin cleaning the litter boxes? I am going to quarantine them in my bedroom for the next few days while the brunt of the worming takes place. That way we don't have to burn through as much litter (I have 5 large litter boxes throughout the house) I also spoke with rasputins breeder and she noticed recently that dolly his mother has worms( white spots around her bum) She wormed her about 6 months ago. Wasn't sure why she would have worms already since she has no dogs and the cats do not go outside. We discussed her cleaning regimen when she wormed and it seems she was never told by her vet to clean the boxes at all... So she will be doing the same now. It's very likely he has worms. I ordered panacur at calvetsupply.com holy moly enough for me to worm them both three days in a row twice for $12. I bought two of them just to have it at the house. 8grams total. I have looked into drontal if I did purchase drontal it would be drontal plus that way it will cover almost everything.

Does drontal treat giardia? Just curious for future reference

If you want to check the stool for worms you should treat then repeat in two weeks, then test another few weeks after that. Whether or not you take Rasputin to the vet next week is up to you - I'm sure they'd let you drop off a stool sample at a later date without making an appointment as long as you let the vet know that is what you want to do.

I've never heard of using drontal to treat giardia, I doubt it does.

Well if he's being wormed and treated for giardia with panacur then I think I'll just reschedule two weeks out to be sure. That way we don't confuse ourselves. The drontal plus I know is good but the panacur is the only one I've seen treat giardia too

She was just starting out and breeds as a hobby. she has fully papered females. And her brother has a fully papered male that he breeds with her girls. These cats were given to her by a family member whom owns a cattery in New Hampshire. So most of the knowledge she has is passed from family to her. She has beautiful cats. But I guess she's still learning.

So the worming went well. They are pretty spunky again.. However since I had treated the house for fleas two weeks ago I have been checking daily to make sure they didn't come back. No signs until last night. I found a bunch of little black spots on pootys tail area. Crap! Turns out the neighbors had fleas and treated their apartment three days ago I live below them. And the neighbor also does their laundry in the basement below me. I'm wondering if that's how they got in here. And I'm super stressed because I just finished worming them not even two days ago and that the fleas will give them worms again. Ugh

Yea idk I tried not to get too much into it. Was kinda surprised she didn't know any of that and is breeding bengals. But to each their own and who am I to judge. She isn't asking much for her kittens and to me she was using it as a tool to teach her daughter about the birds and the bees. Her daughter has autism. I'm pretty sure she looses money on the kittens after paying for vaccines and worming. Very kind woman. Just may not be the sharpest tool in the shed sometimes. The goodnews is she wormed the cats that she does have and there are no kittens in the house right now. She took them in for fecal testing and all looks well.

I believe that monthly Revolution can help break the cycle of fleas/ticks-- and a good bombing will help too. I'm sorry you are feeling depressed-- I know it can seem like a vicious cycle, but you'll get it under control!

And kindness doesn't cover not properly caring for animals. Anyone involved in any animal husbandry knows that keeping a clean housing area for them is critical. I don't excuse much nonsense when it comes to people who are breeding.
