Diarrhea and Peeing issues

Aaron sorry about that short response a bit ago. I was out to dinner. One other thing to think about is whether the home environment is an issue with Coco. Does your wife interact with him and is it in a positive way. If Coco senses that she doesn't like him or is afraid of him, it can be affecting him. Can't remember if you have kids but the same goes for them too if they're picking up on any of your wife's anxiety.

I know. Just hate starting things off with a sick kitty :-( will call my vet tomorrow... breeder said it may be coccidia Contracted at vet office last time i was there? She said he and his sister were tested for parasites just before i brought coco home so doubtful its parasites and his sister is having no issues according to the breeder. Will do a fecal and urinary test i suppose and see whats going on...

It does suck to have a "sick kitten" but the food change could well just have upset his system. A young kitten can have a very sensitive system...and fixing it once you've upset it isn't usually quick and simple like going back to the food you should have been feeding for at least two weeks before SLOWLY transitioning to a new food. Now his gastrointestinal tract is upset, and feeding the boiled chicken and rice is the best route, it's the blandest food and should calm it down. Then you can SLOWLY reintroduce the diet you want to feed.

You probably should think about having a PCR diarrhea panel run to make sure there is no giardia or something that was just subclinical until he had a stomach upset and now is causing an issue.

Yes, Cat Attract litter is a good option (they even make a Kitten Attract formula) for the peeing. Not leaving clothes on the floor is an obvious change too. You mention the curtains, did the kitten spray or how did that happen? Washing with a good enzyme cleaner (like AntiIckyPoo, not Nature's Miracle) is necessary...do not use bleach as that can attract cats to pee again.

I don't have much to add to what has already been said, but to reiterate:

¤ Never leave clothes on the floor, that is an invitation to be peed on
¤ One stressor at a time - he just moved to your home, changing his diet is stress on top of stress
¤ Getting a second litter box would have been my first suggestion, as well as cleaning the diarrhea as soon as he goes. Wash the pan as well if it gets soiled. Cat Attract is a great idea.
¤ Washing linens, clothes, and curtains, as well as the floor with a good enzyme cleaner such as Anti-Icky-Poo or Unique Distributors is a must. The stuff at the local pet store just won't cut it.
¤ Past testing is just that - in the past. Your vet can do a fecal at the office, but if he doesn't see anything and the diarrhea isn't resolving I would strongly recommend you send out a diarrhea PCR panel. It's expensive, but if there is something there that has flared because of the stress of the new home and diet change you need to know so that you can treat it appropriately.

- I got a second litter box last night and found pee in it this morning which is good (along with diarrhea in his original box again)... will switch to boiled chicken and rice today and get his diarrhea checked asap

- in regards to food switching etc... for some reason i dont think i made myself clear... i was feeding him 100 percent of the same food the breeder was for the first couple of days. I then started to put in 10 -15 percent of a new food (acana) which is a no grain high quality kibble here in canada. Shortly after i even put that small amount his diarrhea started. So i went back to his original breeder kibble immediately. So there was never a drastic or huge change in food at all. And what little change there started to be was slow small and brief

- How do i divide up the chicken and rice (2 parts chicken one rice??)

Also everyone including kids are bonding great... my wife has taken to him for sure she just had to warm up a bit.. so bonding as def not an issue... no stressors from a human perspective and his energy is amazing... playing like crazy etc...

You need to wait weeks before slowly switching...I tell all my kitten buyers that...at least 30 days...Yes...2 parts chicken to one part rice is fine

Make sure he is drinking plenty of water as well...he is going to be naturally stressed from being in a new place

ok great. He was drinking water like crazy the first few days here... since having the issues I'm noticing a drop off with him drinking for sure (will the chicken and rice help with him getting a bit more liquid?) I'm assuming storing it in the fridge in a tupperware container would be ok?

Can you save some of the broth from chicken? That will help him get more liquids...
