Diarrhea and Peeing issues

Hmm... Different AVATAR... Was not complaining, just an observation...
Glad you got the sample you need, but sorry to hear about the Diarrhea. I hope that they find the cause and it is an easy cure. We are keep you all in our prayers... Best of luck.

OK... so Coco's Fecal came back negative which is good. The Vet prescribed Metronidazole to be given once a day for 10 days... he also gave me Royal Canin GI High Energy Cans of Wet Food to give him.. I know the food is low/mid grade with fillers and by products etc... would you recommend I follow the doctors orders or is there a different food I can give him and his sensitive tummy.
Also Vet is insisting on his third booster (FVRCP) to go along with his rabies shot. He's an indoor kitty and I've been informed that this isn't necessary by my breeder... Vet says do it as a kitten and then as an adult you can decide not to... I hate all this competing info between vets and breeders etc... its so stressful!

Was it a diarrhea PCR panel that your vet did or just a routine fecal? If it wasn't a PCR panel there may have been several things not included. I would ask him exactly what was tested for and make sure the following were included: Tritrichomonas, Giardia, Cryptosporidium, Toxoplasma, Salmonella, Camphylobacter, Clostridium, coronavirus. and panleukopenia.
As for the vaccines, it depends on when Coco received his last vaccine. If it was after he was 16 weeks old then you don't need a new one (it is at this age that the immune system is felt to be strong enough to retain lasting immunity). If it was before 16 weeks of age then I would give another one. BUT, I would not have it given on the same day as the rabies if at all possible. That can be pretty hard on a kitten. FVRCP yes but only when he is over the diarrhea and feeling 100%. Rabies is up to you if it's not a legal requirement where you live.
The carrageenan and corn flour in the Royal Canin are known to cause gastrointestinal issues in some cats. Unfortunately these 2 ingredients appear in most commercial foods.
How do you feel about feeding him raw such as Feline's Pride or RadCat? Whatever you decide to feed, start mixing the food a little bit at a time into the chicken and rice that you're feeding him. Increase the new food and decrease the old food a 1/4 to 1/2 tsp every few days until he's eating just the new food. Whole process should take a couple of weeks.

Thanks Patti. It was a regular fecal stool ova and parasites test. I brought up trying a panel and they said the tests are almost identical in what they check for for the cost difference...
His Birthday is March 26 and his 2nd vaccine was July 4 so that's less than 16 weeks. So maybe I should go ahead with the 3rd? Also food recommendations... or stick with the prescription Royal Canin GI food he gave me for now... I have natures variety raw on hand just didn't want to give him something too rich

Thanks Witchy!! Like I mentioned in my reply to Patti, I brought up the scan and they said it wasn't necessary due to the fact that the fecal tests for similar things... I'm assuming the med he gave me is an all-cure based on what I've read on it (anti bacterial,protozoal, anti-diarrheal and works for inflammation). Hoping it works... I have raw on hand and will try that slowly...

Fingers crossed that the metronidazole does the job. You researched it so you know it has a bitter taste and Coco is unlikely to appreciate your effort at getting him well.
